Started the paxton install today but the Roe PS pulley is touching the paxton pulley when paxton is mounted on it's bracket. I m not sure if the pully on paxton is not on all the way or if I need washers to space it out. Can someone post a closeup of their paxton to PS pulley clearance. Here's a few pics of mine...

The pulley was on backwards, fixed now...

Edit: That was not it...

I flipped it and put it on...than the question was what to torque down the pulley bolt to. I did a search and the instructions said for 45/50 ft/lbs on pulley bolt. If I barely tighten the bolt the pulley won't move because it's in contact with the s/c, I would assume the pulley should be able to move freely. I went back and looked at this thing...The thing that hold the pulley from coming in contact with the s/c is the little snout that on paxton pulleys sticks out on one side and on the other is flush with the pulley outer diameter. On this particular pulley the snout sticks out on one end and on the other it's not flush hence the rubbing on the s/c. So the pulley can only go on one way...and that that way it hits the Power Steering pump...I know someone else out there has to run this pulley...how do you get it clear the PS pump? run washers on the s/c bracket? if so what size and how many or else the alignment will be off...here's a few pics of the pulley...

The PS pulley is 'pressed' on. I'll bet you have some clearance to press it back ever-so-slightly.

Let's not forget, the cars were hand built. I've seen tight tolerances on the 10-rib set-up before. Before you do what I'm about to suggest, check your paxton pulley alignment... if it is off ever-so-slightly, you can grind down the stand on the pulley ever-so-slightly as well. I'd look at the PS pulley first though. I bet it will press further.

Good luck!

I had a buddy come over who had a bright idea to install the washer that you see in the pic I posted above with the pulley bolt before putting the pulley back on. With the washer on first the pulley moves freely installed the right way...

Thanks all :2tu:

It appears you got your pulley on the paxton on backwards.

Here is what a 8 rib pulley looks like which is the stock pulley on your paxton should look like installed.

Here's the 10 rib pulley on my custom paxton system I built with no issues touching the PS pulley.

Don't know anything of the roe pully if it's larger in diameter but I would say put your stock one back on and see where it sits.

It's been a long time but I think if memory serves me right your bolt that hold on the paxton pulley should be right over the PS pulley and have a small amount of clearance maybe a little less than a 1/4".

I bet you it has something to do with your paxton bracket not being lined up right.

good luck.

I finally got the s/c on but now the question is if I need to take it all off to put a water pump pulley on...here's what it looks like right now...

I have moved the belt up and down and do not hit the water pump pulley at all until the nut...I m not sure how far the belt stretches with paxton. The pulley measured around 3.25 inches...What do you guys suggest?

did you buy this paxton used?

i would suggest getting a set of instructions, if you don't already have some,

the help you get on this board is good but its better to be 100% sure your getting it all together right.

Good Luck!

97snk, my belt is the same distance as yours is from the water pump pulley with no problems at all. I would put everything together then start it up and let us run for a few minutes. Then check the belt. But mine looks the same with no problems.
