Performance Stats for New Coupe on SRT site - puzzling.

This is the SRT site for the new coupe. Single click at the X at the upper right hand corner of the video screen. Performance stats will pop up. It says: " 1/4 mile: low 12 second". Explanation?

What is the puzzlement? They are just being conservative.
Low-12 second 1/4 mile times means 12.0 to 12.3 roughly, and that's fairly accurate for someone who is not a skilled dragracer.

I wonder the same thing. My 02 GTS is rated @ 12.0 stock and the 03 SRt-10 was rated at 11.77 @ 123. Why is Dodge claiming 12.20 with 55 more hp than my 02? I did read in a recent VIPER Mag (Spring 05) that they say MT got 11.77...

I just wish there was more documented performance in order for me to justify $30k more (than my GTS) for the new coupe. I love the looks of the Coupe!

there's just not enough of these cars in the hands of drag racers. I just read a week or so ago someone on here on thier bone stock SRT ran a 11.7x at 124.x

I'm sure there's a *little* more left in 'er..

These "test" drivers simply head out the the vacant road in back, mark off a 1/4 mile, and nail the gas to the best of their ability. I doubt all the car magazines will head down to the local track and run the cars. My guess is that they use some type of G-Trac which I hear is quite accurate.

Meanwhile, most of us will play with rear tire pressures, take out the spare, and maybe even the passenger seat, take out the front stabilizer bar, ice down the manifold (always worked for me) take out the air filters, (yikes if you forget to put them back) and even fold in the side mirrows (good for at least .01 secs)

But 99% is still driver's skill, and how much he/she tries to get to know the car and how to squeeze every ounce of performance from it.

I nailed a 12.02 in my Stock '96 GTS w K&Ns, at 119 mph. At Moroso... in Florida!

I went 11.96 123 1st pass with a 1.99 60 ft., and never made another pass. I lost some traction at the start and the car was right off the highway at 205 degrees, i know there was some left on the table.
