so.. DLM has my car right now, i originally told him to cut a half coil off the eibachs but Doug advised me it may sit too low. to first put the eibachs and the caps and if i dont like it to go back and he'll hook me up and cut a half coil all around.

Does anyone have pics of their stock wheels on an eibach/cap setup?

im worried it may not be low enough. I want that low look but not too low that im scraping everywhere.

With caps and cut eibachs you will definitely be too low. I would imagine the ride would be horrible as well.
I just put Eibachs on my wife's GTS last night with no caps, it would have looked better with the caps, but want to give her some room to run over stuff.

I put the Intrax springs on my Gen I 3 years ago and they are definitely a quarter inch to one half inch lower than the eibach's.

Treesnake has photos with eibach and caps.

Since your title asked for lowered with caps, here is my car, that has lowering caps only:

If you drive on everyday roads you WILL scrape at some point with eibachs + caps. Cutting a half coil could give you problems down the road. Every time you jack the car the spring and cap may shift from it's seat on the shock. Perhaps that isnt the best explaination but you get the drift. Being too low will cost your pocket and front fascia.

I will get pics of mine tomorrow after the alignment. I first did the springs and the front looked good but the back tire gap was still .75" more than the front so I put caps in the back only. The car is now level, I think it looks perfect.

is there a big difference in ride quality with just the eibachs? Do you have to do a full allignment afterwards? Shank-does doug do the alignment?

doug dosn't do an alligment. He reffered me to a few people though. and yes you do have to do an alligment whenever you lower a car. Im going to let it settle in for a few more days before i take it to get it alligned.

im pretty happy with the eibachs and caps, im glad i didn't cut them as its sitting pretty low right now and it still has to settle in another quarter to half inch.

Do yourself a favor, do not cut the springs. That is only asking for trouble. Ride quality will diminish greatly if you do so. I debated how to lower my car in the past and did tons of research. I wound up going the right way with Motons. While it was tough at first to swallow the cost of the suspension, it is by far the best mod I have done to date. The suspension is incredible.

A friend of mine has been making auto/truck springs for 20 yrs. at a co. here in STL. I was getting some overload springs made for a company vehicle and we got to be talking about Vipers. (Imagine that...) We talked about lowereing cars and the subject of cutting springs came up. He told me that the worst thing that you can do is to randomly cut some of a coil spring off. He told me the reason is that the entire spring was made to work together to handle a certain weight. Remove a coil and the "dynamics/attitude" of the spring is changed.

For instance, say a spring was needed to support ...2000#. The spring would be made out of X gauge wire. With this gauge wire, the engineer determines that the spring would require 8 coils (wraps) to support 2000#. Remove one of those wraps and the spring rate is now changed to ???? and will handle ??? weight...:dunno:
Would this affect handling, ride etc.... :duh:

Even more so with Eibachs. If you look at an Eibach spring , the coils are wrapped closer together on one end. So which end do you cut? Surely it would matter if you cut the tighter end as opposed to cutting the wider end. Why is one end wrapped tighter than the other in the first place?:duh:

Hey Malu59RT,
My showroom is in the World Trade Center her in Dallas, and I remember seeing your car in the atrium during that market. I had just taken delivery of my '08 triple black vert. and thought your car was so pretty that I may have gotten the wrong car! Sweet ride!

Very small world, and thanks for the compliments! The N. Texas VCA chapter set me up with that opportunity. The model with the car was absolutely gorgeous, I wish I would have been able to give her a ride in the Viper when she asked, but that was 2 days before I could move the car out :(

Funny story, the management of the WTC that was helping me drive the car through the halls, asked me to peel out and mess up the floors when I left. They said the guy that cleans it is real anal about the floor. They thought it would be funny. :lmao: I didn't have the heart to do that to him, but it would have been great if I got it on video :D

Hey Sleekride your cars stance looks great:2tu::headbang:. I pm'd you the other day about your suspension setup. You car sets very level, did you do springs and caps all around or springs in front and springs/caps in back to get it that level? I want the level look too so I was debating on the caps in just the rear in junction with the springs.

Im pretty sure we are the only manufacturer using 6061-T6 Billet. We upgraded to this stronger grade when we went to the thinner .75" drop.... the other caps we have seen are not 6061-T6.

Maybe Im losing my mind, but TREESNAKE has purchased FOUR complete sets of Spring Caps from PartsRack, Thanks, as well as Eibach Springs, since 2005. I fully realize your allegiance has changed, but facts is facts. Thank You.

( Ill email treesnake his old invoices as a memory-jog reminder. )

I agree with the friend of yours in the truck biz. It is cheap and fast to cut a coil, (or a partial coil) but the 'preload' on that spring is then absorbed by the other coils, and you can very quickly render a good spring into a matress-bouncey spring.

As to your Eibach question, The Eibach 'Pro' Springs you got from PartsRack are PROGRESSIVE rate springs, vs contstant or linear rate. {'Pro' for Progressive} The harder you compress a Progressive spring, the more it fights back. Hence, the coils are tapered thinner to thicker, and/or wound tighter at one end. This allows a touring ride with little compression, and a stiff ride as in autocrossing or tracking, or twisty-canyon driving.

YIKES ! DON'T DO THAT !!! LISTEN TO DOUG.... But not only becasue the lowness, but the PROgresseive spring! The Caps + normal Eibachs should be all you need, and all your OE shocks can tolerate in any whoop-dee-doo driving or if you hit any speed-bumps a bit too fast.
