Please help with air conditioning

Ok so I love my FE viper but.. I'm in florida. My ac is on full blast. It's not even summer yet and my back is sweating against the seat. My forehead is sweating. The air feels cold.

Please tell me I can spend some money and upgrade the AC system? Better blower motor? Bigger canister??? Better compressor? Something I hope. I'm prepared to spend.

Install a Dynamat system. This involves taking the seats out . It will help and will lower the **** pit temp.

Could just be you and not the car.

Does it feel really cold, or just cooler than the air in the cabin? Have your system checked to make sure it is not leaking. It could just be low on refrigerant.

I have a 97 and I was told the AC shuts off when you apply the gas. I bought a piece from IPSCO that is suppose to eliminate this issue. I haven't tried it yet, but have faith since everything I have bought from Mark has been top notch!!

Have your system's suction pressure checked and go from there. A shot of R134a refrigerant may be all you need (worked for me).

I never heard that the A/C shuts off when you apply the gas….

I do know that the HVAC will direct the conditioned air from the dash vents to the defroster vents if vacuum is lost. (I've only noticed this in 5th or 6th gears on the highway when the gas pedal is pressed far down) There's a check valve that can be installed for that.

All that being said…my 2000 GTS was bought new, the A/C has a full charge. If the car sits in the sun with the windows up and gets very hot inside…the A/C simply can't do the job to bring it down. I've had two GTS…both were the same in this regard.

My ac shuts off when I gas it more than 1/4th throttle the. Right back to blowing cooler. The cold shuts off not the airl

I'm in AZ, and my A/C in my 97 GTS was just recharged before I bought the car. Car gets so cold that my wife wants to keep a blanket in the car haha. I still have full stock exhaust btw.

Sounds like yours needs a recharge.

I can't imagine how the evaporator could immediately go from cold to hot when the gas pedal is depressed.

I can see how a vacuum leak could cause the blend door to move and perhaps direct more warm air into the mixture.

If the compressor clutch was somehow set to disengage...I can't see how it would immediately turn into warm air at the dash vents.

I agree, I've never seen anything like it. Just doesn't make sense to me.

When you rev the engine the engine the suction pressure will drop. If it drops below the low pressure switch setpoint then the compressor will shut off. This usually indicates the system is low on refrigerant. Makes sence to me

PCM disengages compressor when TPS is signaling full throttle. This is part of the engine Management strategy and shall ensure maximum power for acceleration.

Again....even if the compressor is disengaged at full throttle..it's not going to result in hot air immediately at the vents. The compressor cycles on and off all the time....the evaporator won't get hot immediately.

Theoretically in a 'normal' car...but mine gets immediately ambient (aka underhood temp) when the PCM says its in the go-fast mode or I turn the AC to vent...since its coming from that large, black, plastic "heat soaked" plenum right next to an exhaust manifold....even in recirculation mode. Ahhh the joys of the Viper experience. Even on cold days I don't need to tun the heat on...just turn to outside vent and whala...its the underhood temp courtesy of the worst engineering design in modern history.

Wow, I'm so happy, I took it to a shop, they vaced it out and it only had .5 lbs of freon. They charged it up and replaced the low side schrader valve and boom, this baby is ICEY even in florida! I'm stoked

That low side schrader valve is notorious for seeping. Great news!!

I have a 97 GTS and had suffered many hot summers too! I designed and built a 'cabin divider' window that press fits behind the seats and the headliner. It separates the driver cabin air from the trunk air. This effectively doubles the efficiency of your A/C system. It works great for me! I made a bunch of them for my buddies. Hey, how have you been? I just purchase one for my 2002 Gts. I'll let you know once I have it installed.

It fit my 2002 ACR perfect. Fit and finish is great. I got to test it out in 95 degree plus and will write a review shortly. Anyone that live in hot climate needs to get one. It's well worth the $55.

When you open the throttle , the manifold vacuum drops and vacuum is lost to various vacuum actuators in the A/C system. A very inexpensive check attached to the intake manifold on the right side solves the open-the-throttle-a/c-switches-to-heat problem. The check valve is an ignition part for many cars. I just had my Gen II RT/10 air conditioning flushed and replaced, it took 1.35 pounds, no leaks or other problems, its' colder but it still doesn't blow real cold air, my mechanic thinks it just doesn't blow as hard as I would like, does anyone make an after-market improved blower? My experience with Chrysler products in the past was that they had the best coldest systems, of course that was back in the days of real freon.
