Why the huge gaps between the tire and the body???

The silly little M3 is practically RIDING on the tires, and it LOOKS AWESOME. Why can't Dodge accomplish this simple feat?

Yes, the wheel clearance on the M3 is SO tight. Maybe it's because the regular sedan came first and then they squeezed as much rubber under the car as possible. The SRT-10 on the other hand started off as the production model with room left over for racing tires? Doesn't seem like any larger tires could ever be needed, but it's nice to have the option.
