Porsche's 918 Spyder just turned a sub-7 minute lap at The Ring.

Just read that too. I would like to see the video.

On a side note, time for Ralph to follow through with his promise on going back once the record is broken.

On a really positive note, amazing how close the ACR-X time is. I know it was on non DOT tires, but look at what it ran with! Honestly, if the big three hyper cars don't beat the ACR, then I'd be surprised.

What is the point of using non DOT tires? All of these cars are 100% road ready AFAIK - the ACR needs to be as well. IMHO

I understand that. I referenced the ACR-X because it is the closest thing to what a Gen V ACR would be in terms of power, weight, and aero. I also thought given how the Porsche has 225 more horsepower, PDK transmission, active aero, CCB, and costs a lot more, all it takes was the ACR-X to make a comparable run.

I am surprised the p1 wasn't under 7 as well. Though mclaren's focus has always been to make the best road cars and not track cars. This new Porsche and laferrari share the same thought. There is no point comparing them to the ACR where it's only purpose is for the track. Instead of saying oh wow look how close the ACR is we should be saying oh wow these cars beat the ACR AND we can drive them every day as if they were an S550.

I don't know if a new ACR will beat these times just because from that article someone else posted already showing how the viper chassis and suspension are almost identical to the previous years.

In order for the new ACR to be the King of the Ring again, SRT would have to get a tire that is barely street legal, that beats the Corsa and PS-Cup. I think the Corsa's will hold the ACR back. On the other hand, if SRT would give an optional track tire that is DOT approved, similar to a Toyo R888, then sub 7's would be possible. We already know that the minor suspension tweaks actually make the GENV a faster car at the track when looking at the TA compared to the old ACR. Full aero package and a 60HP bump would do the trick.

Why doesn't SRT do like Ford did with the Boss and offer an optional "track key" with the ACR. That way, it will still meet MPG's and emissions on the street, but crank things up for the track. They have an 800HP crate V10 for crying out loud, a 700HP track key option can't be that difficult to achieve.

That would have been neat to do with the current gen V but again adds lots of cost.

I don't know why more hyper cars aren't doing the track key thing. When I first saw that I thought in a yr we'd see a lot of cars setup that way and nothing. You'd think it'd be a great solution but there must be some issue we're not aware of I guess.

Well given how laferrari for most even with the money to afford it will be almost impossible to get without history I rather get this or the mclaren over a bugatti. Though at 1 million I rather have the agera R

I never thought the Bugatti was cool, always thought it was ugly as hell. Koenigsegg on the other hand.... my "I will never be able to have one" dream car.

Would have to politely disagree about a Toyo R888 , since this tire was universally hated by World Challenge and SCCA Spec Miata drivers. I don't think it lasted more than a year in either series ( before dropped ) , and even with supposed improvements I doubt it superior to a Corsa.

Now a trip over with Hoosier R6s could be stellar, in my opinion.

C'mon Powerball. After I take the cash option and pay taxes on the $136M I will have about $70M left and would still buy a 2014 Viper and a Lemke Falcon F7 before buying that Porshe. Never been a Porsche guy - but since my younger son is a Porsche fan, I guess I would could also buy one for him :D .

What was he doing to the steering wheel at 7:25? aero?

I am just doing some reading, this one was equipped with the optional Weissach package: $84,000 worth of carbon-fibre, titanium and magnesium enhancements for a total weight savings of seventy-seven pounds. And no stereo.

This is pretty much a million dollar car. Very cool. Also learned they are making 918 of them. That makes the Gen IV ACR more rare :drive:

Come on SRT! Go whip some million dollar ass for a lot less!

So more people will spend 1 million on that porsche than 120k on the viper? Is that a good thing or bad? lol

The 918 has KERS, so it can store up extra energy through braking to boost hp.

I was wondering the same thing. Probably removing downforce for the long straight? Didn't look as hairy as the ACR run, but he was also able to keep both hands on the wheel the entire time...just saying.

Yea, almost looked... boring? Compared to the ACR.. LOL
Seriously though, awesome car. I saw about 285 KPH give or take on the back stretch about 180mph? Can it go faster?

I am waiting for a car company to troll others. Break the record with a "slower" record, publish that video, wait for another company to invest tons of money trying to break it and say oh wait, here is our other video from the same day with a faster lap yet. You still lose. :rolaugh:
