So when I was doing an oil change on the '08 my buddy who was helping me had noticed a spot on the frame near where the exhaust pipe exits on the passenger side of the car that looks like it had been pounded out. It appears to be pounded out from the inside. The more and more I think about it I get paranoid about the spot and am looking for some feedback on the issue.

The car is an '08 vert. one previous owner with 1998 miles on it when I bought it. Carfax was clean, but I know thats not the end all be all. The pics are not the greatest as I can't get the car in the air right now due to the weather.

Side view of the spot. Notice the two puddy spots.

I guess what i'm asking is, from what people can see, how serious do you think this is? The car drives fine. No issues on the road at all. All body panels line up fine. Any feedback would be great. The two puddy spots tell me something was pounded out but i'm just wondering how serious you guys think this can be.

Could just be there was something run over and dented the underside no big deal. This is not frame related at all, so chances are they simply ran over something.

I will be the first to say, I am not a frame expert, though I did sell a home once, and have stayed in a Holiday Inn before, but from where I'm sitting, looking at your photos, it doesn't look like much of anything that a good cleaning won't resolve. But it would be nice to see it on a lift, clean it up a bit, and take some new photos.

Stick with Mark's comment. The majority of the frame structure is inboard where the shear panel bolts to (or as something think of it is a rock guard under the transmission, but it actually supports the frame from racking, also explains the relatively large 8.8 or 10.9 grade fasteners). The Viper is a body on frame design, not uni-body, whereas if it were a uni-body the rocker support (and the rocker panel itself, why they are welded on a uni-body) plays an important role in the structural integrity. So no worries for your car..
