possible steering leak. anyone know how to make custom lines?

i believe my lines are leaking. after driving i saw some small oil spots on the driver front fender and open the hood i see some oil.

doubt its my oil lines since its on the passenger side.

are the srt-10 known for having bad power steering lines also? does the pump go bad?

anyone have dimensions or info on how to build a new lines?

Look harder for the actual source... you are shooting in the dark until you know which line it is exactly. There have been failures of pretty much any line, yes... but failures are not horribly common.

Mine failed. Actually the number 14 fitting that connects to the steering pump. The hose is fine but since the quick connect fitting can never come off you have to order the hose plus both fittings.

In my case 225 bucks to replace just one powersteering line

Btw...if it is the powersteering then dont drive her till fixed.

The powersteering controls your fan.

I had a chain reaction....

Powersteering fluid all leaks out
Fan stops working
Car severely overheats
Crank pulley comes off


Big mess!

ill take a look at the reservoir and fittings after i clean the engine bay.

thought it was brake fluid since i changed it last week. found a inch of dust on my suspension. i noticed some dry specs of oil around the clutch reservoir area but i think the car dried up what was there.

can you make better braided lines using aeroquip stuff? if so it would be appreciated if i can get the how to guide on building new lines.

I plan on customizing mine. I have a race shop close to me that has everything I need. I don't know how fast you need them but my viper is in storage for probably another month. Normally it's the pump but like others said, the lines can leak.

woke up and went to check on the viper. saw a puddle around the power steering reservoir side.

felt it and it feels watery and a little oil. so it could be a coolant leak plus power steering. check the coolant and i think its leaking since i filled it up a few weeks ago to cold level. where is the bleed valve where coolant leaks out when its too full? check my power steering fluid and its only 3/4 full.

ill try to get pictures in a few days

went to wash the engine today and when i took the top airbox cover off. the pan had oil in it. took the filters off and had oil all around the edge. took everything apart to look at the throttle body and its totally clean. anyone ever have this problem?

i also drove the car for half hour to get milk and after 20min letting it sit, no oil or fluids on the ground. im starting to think i have a ghost messing about in my car.

degreased everything and will be putting on new oil lines and flushing the coolant. will be closely monitoring the car for the next month. hopefully there is no major problems.

Not unusual. Under braking oil sloshes forward in the valve covers. Some of it makes its way into the make up air line (the one that goes from the valve cover to the airbox). You should install an oil/air separator. They are available from DC Performance and are smog legal. It is essentially a catch can that traps the oil before it makes its way to the airbox. Oil in intake lowers octane rating so it is best to fix it.

anyone make a gen 3 separator? only found a gen 4. where should i mount it?
Call DC Performance. I can't see why a Gen 3 is different than a Gen 4. You only have to cut the line from the valve cover to the airbox and insert the seperator. Mine is mounted on cross bar in front of the engine. You need to be able to access the drain on the bottom.

i would assume you can bring the broken line to an industrial hose shop and have one made up. they make the for machines all day long
