Looking to do the MGW interior trim (Minus the head unit knob). Would like to check out some pictures of Vipers without the interior trim painted if possible.

Chris (Y2K5SRT) I'm sure you'll be reading this...what is the exact model of the shifter you have in your car? I don't see any yellow shifters listed on the MGW website!

Thanks in advance guys :2tu:

Cheap bastard. IT's 20.00 bucks. Even if you don't need it, buy it. You will feel better knowing that you can buy nothing else from MGW....

Ricky -

I have gone a couple routes, both of which are great. For the VCA SRT, I got the First Strike knob to begin with, along with the chrome shift bezel, "cupholder", and gauge rings:

This shift knob has a really great feel to it and drops the height considerably. Easy to miss a shift with the stock knob, not so easy with this one. After that I decided to try something just a little shorter and easier for my son to work with. I ended up with the MGW Gripper knob. Definitely a short throw (very) and seems to have a bit more heft to it, resulting in more confident shifting. Good looking too:

Here is what the entire package looks like:

And to give you an idea of the difference, here is what it looked like stock:

In my 2003, I went with the brushed finish on the black car, as well as the First Strike knob:

The detail on George's stuff is incredible:

Here is everything in brushed finish:

I even experimented with the chrome stuff on the black car. Not bad!

Of course if you are going all out, don't forget your MGW license plate frame (with custom theft-proof screw heads and adapter):

Or perhaps an MGW oil cap:

And last, but not least, a really nice MGW coaster for your home or office:

Hope this helps, and enjoy your MGW addiction as much as I have! :2tu:

Nice photos, thanks for sharing.
How easy is it to change the shift knob and throw?
How does the chrome finish look on the straight black interior compared to the brushed finish. Since you have photos of both, which one did you stay with? Since I have a Harley, I am a little partial to chrome vs brushed finish. It looks awesome on your yellow VCA model.

I decided to stay with the brushed finish on my black car, largely because everything else was black and the chrome was a touch too "flashy" for an otherwise dark car. Now on a yellow car, regardless of the interior, I think the chrome compliments the wild nature of the exterior. I would definitely go chrome, and in my case couldn't imagine brushed being as striking on a two-tone interior. No matter how you slice it, MGW makes some GREAT stuff!

Oops! Sorry about missing that part of the question. The answer is: VERY easy. I have probably gone through six different shift knobs on my Vipers and used MGW on all. George will send you the tools (Allen wrenches) for the bezel, along with new screws. For the knob, you simply need two crescent wrenches (can't remember the size) and just a little muscle.

The factory knob is held in place with a nut screwed up against the shifter itself. Turn the factory knob counter-clockwise while turning the nut the opposite direction, and voila! The knob will come right off (you may need to "thump" one of the two wrenches to initially break it loose). You can then adjust the nut on the thread to the height where you want your new MGW knob. Then simply screw that knob on until it butts up against the nut. Make sure your logo is where you want it before that final turn of the wrench to tighten it up.

The whole process takes 10-15 minutes, including the 5-10 minutes it takes to remember where you put your #$%&*! tool box. Oh yeah, and make SURE you put the boot on the new knob before you put it all back together. Otherwise you will feel pretty stupid. Like I did.

The MGW short-throw shift knob is one of the easiest and more rewarding mods you can possibly make on your SRT-10. You won't go back to stock again.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Chris & Mike!

Mike judging from the picture of your interior and from what I remember previously with the supercharger seems like your going for that not so flashy look! Looks great :2tu:

Chris, I am a big fan of the interior on your VCA SRT. Looks absolutely amazing! (I love the flashy stuff myself  ) In the first picture you posted I'm guessing thats the "Gripper Shift Knob"? The logo seems bigger in that picture and the few above then the picture of the "entire package"! On the MGW site when you click the shifter bezel they have "Shorty Gripper" listed as one of the knobs while if you click the actual link it calls it the "Gripper Shift Knob"...are these 2 the same thing is is the "Short Gripper" shorter then the "Gripper Shift Knob"? I also wonder if they are differnet since they have the "Shorty Gripper" listed in 3D fangs only and no red while they have the "Gripper Shift Knob" listed in both 3d fangs and red! I defenetly like the look of the "gripper" knobs better then the "First Strike Racing Knob"! Thanks again for your help

Ricky :D

You are correct sir... Brushed finish is the stock look of the Srt interior, it all matches...I love the chrome look, but like chris said, I'm not so sure of it on a black car (Chris...your car looks great inside out )

How in the heck do you shift this with the knob buried down in the hole? Am I missing something or is this rice?

Technically this is Bling not Rice.

Rice is non functional and is meant to make things look racey.

I did the ashtray and the radio knob, very tasteful- the climate control stuff is just too much...

Oh, and also the rear tag bezel in black, with the cool screws...

Dang! I think I am insulted, but am not sure just yet... ;)

Actually, the referenced photo makes it look a LOT shorter than it is, although it is definitely a short throw shifter more than most. Here is a photo taken just moments ago with a more accurate angle:

No digging down to shift and the MGW low-profile boot bezel gives you more clearance as well. The idea is to make the throw as short as possible, and the way to do that is to get the shift knob as close to the transmission mounting point as possible. That is why the stock shift knob is such a long throw - because it has to travel a lot further in an arc to accomplish the same gear changes. Mind you, I wanted to get a short throw with modest expense and without having to take the car apart for an actual shift kit. The fact that the knob looks so "bling" is a side benefit! :2tu:

No particular offense intended. It was just that in that original picture it looked like you would almost have to reach down in the hole to grab the shifter. I like the Gen III interior so much compared to my Gen II I was heartbroken to see something like that. The new picture helps me understand.
