I like the 99 Best, for its rear hatch release located inside the cabin and the exterior mirrors can also be adjusted from the cabin. 1999 was the last year for forged pistons.

The 99 has little ring bezels around each of the gauges in the dash to match the shifter that is the round ball type in that brushed aluminum apearance. Fred is correct about the pistons. In 2k they went with a milder cam but the power is suppose to be the same and the pistons are are different in 2k. Hope that helps? Search the archives also for more.

I prefer the 98. I like the 17" rims more than the 18.

I love the very rough idle of my 98. I think the 99 cam may be slightly milder.

I could not care less about a rear hatch release, for me it ranks with cupholders.

Re: Potential buyer...differences in \'98-99 GTS?

I have found that people with 98's prefer the 98's and people with the 99's prefer the 99's. If I was looking for a used car, I'd let condition, price and location be the deciding factors. I don't think there is that much difference in the cars.

Oh, I like my 99 best because it doesn't have the little plastic covers over the fog lights....

Pick your favorite color first. Different color combos will determine the year in most cases. Go the the registry link for a breakdown of colors by year. Good luck and take your time. The right car is out there; your job is to find it.

According to most of these guys, the cam in the older ones amounts to like 150 more horsepower compared to the newer ones.

WA 2 FST

Do check the archieve's, as I recall a very good comparison of the two years that was posted about 6 months ago. Good luck in your hunt. Please feel free to contact me if I can help. Being in Allen, I don't think you are too far from me.
