Car: 1994 Dodge Viper RT/10, stock cooling fan, no electrical mods

Product: Roe Fan Control Unit for a 1994 RT/10

Problem: Fan does not stay on when car is turned off. When pulling into my garage with the temp gauge at the bottom of the yellow arc the cooling fan is running. However, when I shut the car off, the fan stops also.

What I’ve checked: Fan works when the car is running. Also, if I short the temperature sensor the fan comes on.

What I think is wrong: Faulty temp sensor.

What can I do? Any advice?

Call Sean....could be a bad sensor. It happens. :( He'll make it right.

Since you can short out the sensor and the fan comes on....I'm guessing it could be the sensor....but Sean and Dave are the gurus.

I emailed sean, I just figured I'd see if it was something I was missing, I know a lot of other guys have these.

I will say this kit was awesome. I could make it for cheaper, but it would look no where near as clean and stock appearing, definitely worth the cash.

You can also test the relay. That relay has numbers on it and you can test when it is suppose to kick on as well as what and when the voltage comes out. relays tend to burn out too...

If it _used_ to work but doesn't anymore, then it is probably the relay. wiring looks clean at this point. those relays are known to burn out, anyway...

good luck!

This time of year, the fan may not come on.
Here's how you can test that the install was done correctly and everything is working.
Jump the two leads on the temperature switch.
This should make the fan come on. If it does, all is good. If it doesn't, call me (there's either a bad connection or no fuse in the holder). The relays have never been a problem.
Here's how the kit should work. It's designed to turn the fan on when the coolant temperature gets close to hot enough that boiling could start. If the temperature is not high enough, like your regular fan, it won't come on.
You can test it in this way.
Run the engine and drive the car to regular operating temperature. Let the engine idle with the hood closed. When you hear the factory fan kick on (A/C must be off), turn the engine off. At the point the fan comes on, the engine is at 207 degrees (programmed point of factory PCM to turn the fan on). Let the car sit. If the engine starts to heat soak and temperature from the exhaust pipes is getting into the heads, the fan kit temperature sensor will turn on the relay. It will only turn on the relay if the sensor itself gets to 200 degrees. On warm days, mine will come on after about 40 seconds.
Let me know if any of you need further help.
There are little adjustments that can be made to activate it faster, such as putting a drop of oil or grease in between the heat sink base and the pipe to help the heat transfer faster.

Regards,
Sean

I had the exact same problem on my '96RT. I emailed Sean who replied me with the exact same thing above. I checked everything again and it would not start by itself, but would start only if I jumped the two leads on the temperature switch as Sean mentioned. Anyway, it was not working and I got tired of checking, so I left it the way it was. One day, after putting back the car in the garage after a ride, I started fixing something on a another car just next to the Viper and suddenly , maybe after 5 minutes, guess what, the fan turned on! Since then I have always noticed that yes, the fan kit works, but it doesn't turn on after 40 sec., but after 5 minutes even on warm days and if the car is really hot. And yes, I'm very happy with the kit!
Hope this help.
