Question re retorquing Belanger Header bolts . . .

Per the 2008 Belanger header installation instructions, I need to retorque the header bolts once I reach 1,000 miles on the headers.

The system uses the stock header bolts. Can anyone tell me what size wrench I need to retorque the bolts? I would rather not experiment with various size wrenches in order to avoid stripping the bolts.

I know this is along shot but if anyone happens to know the answer I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Put another way, what size wrench fits the stock 2008 exhaust manifold bolts? I checked my 2008 service manual and it did not specify the type of bolt used. Thanks.

how would grabbing 3 or 4 wrenches or sockets of various sizes strip the bolts? If the wrench is loose grab the next size smaller.

But anyways I have the belanger headers on my 06 coupe and used a 1/2 socket. A 13mm works too but the 1/2 fits better Dont know what the 08 is but that should get you started

rich so tell us your feedback on performance you have noticed since the install and with the miles you have put on the car with headers.any possible sound video clips of the exhaust?

Thanks for all the responses, I'll experiment with those socket sizes.

I hope to post some sound clips into an earlier post I did where I had a youtube video with the sound of the stock exhaust both inside and outside the cabin. I will do the same with the Belangers. I am still under 500 miles on the Belanger system (the weather here in the Pacific NW has not been cooperative). Once I get to a 1,000 miles I will redyno the car on the same Mustang dyno and hopefully see some significant gains. I will also post the results on another thread I did where I posted the baseline dyno results for my 2008.

Keep in mind the 2008 engine converted to all metric bolts/nuts now... so don't go using american wrenches...

Thanks for the information. I assume that the part number and sizes you cite are for the stock header bolts that came with the car (that is what is used with the Belanger system).

Here is a picture of the stock bolts:

I have been having trouble reaching all the bolts, especially the ones toward the aft of the engine compartment. What specific tool do I need to use for this? A socket or just a standard metric size wrench? Forgive the basic questions but I am a novice mechanic at best ad do not want to risk stripping the bolts or damaging the engine in any way. Thanks for your help.

I used the stock header manifold bolts...10mm. I didn't like the looks and size of the bolts with the kit. The kit bolts gave almost no clearance for a socket or end wrench. No need to retorque the bolts when using a metal header manifold gasket.

I spoke with my Viper Tech today and it turns out they used the header bolts included with the Belanger kit, not the stock bolts. My Tech also clarified that the bolts included with the Belanger kit were half inch bolts.
