hi all, i have a 97 gts, and am becoming interested in the srt 10. i was wondering what the major differences are ( besides looks) i am aware of abs, and hp/tq. and the fact it is convertible. is a hardtop available from dodge? did they make it more comfortable inside? are there less squeaks and rattles. does it handle securely, or is it very twitchy. did they address idle hang, and running hot? do balancers still fly off? i see some real good deals both new and used, and started wondering. i am not looking for a flame fest, just opinions from people who have actual points of reference. thanks rich.

The SRT is much better in the handling and braking department. It is also more comfortable. I would also say it much more stiff than an RT/10, but close to the GTS. The power delivery is more smooth. I think the SRT is a much better car overall. I love the looks of my VCA SRT. Alot of my buddies like the look better than my GTS. The brakes are the first thing you will notice, like night and day. Don't get me wrong I still love my GTS. They are just different.

To answer your exact questions:

-Hardtop is not avalable from Dodge, but a few aftermarket suppliers have them.
-Yes, much more comfortable and snug. SOME "widly built" people do have trouble with the narrow seatbacks- there are fixes.
-Virtually no squeaks or rattles. Only exception is the front corners of the top will sometimes "pop" quietly when very cold and windows are down...this can be fixed by replacing the windsheild corners with new ones... very cheap, replace them once a year or so.
-Handles more securely than Gen-2, but watch out for bumps on corners with a stiff suspension.
-Idle hang is virtually gone
-Cooling issues are 100% resolved
-Balancers have been known to come off. Always due to torquing errors and failures to use loctite.

Any other questions, let me know.

Having felt the difference of a ride in both a '97 GTS and a 2003 SRT-10 on the same day I noticed a little more shock travel compared to the GTS (although I still went zero G on some bumps in the road :D ).
In terms of driving it I can not help ya out because I was only a passenger on both rides :p
