Rain Kills Engine

Got caught in some heavy rain recently & it made the engine miss badly, causine me to pull off Hwy. Once rain cleared it drove normal. This is a 06 RSI TT car. Can't imagine water getting thur air filters & intercooler. Maybe AEM computer got some water on it ? Anyone got any ideas what to check?

first thing - check your oil. Don't run the engine if you think water entered the intake. I would prob. change the oil just to be safe.

It could just be that your filter got soaked and that messed things up a bit. A water soaked air filter is a lot like water-boarding - it's torture to your engine... All kinds of strange things can happen. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you got a full slug of water into your intake and your engine sucked it in and bent a connecting rod.

Air filters don't breathe well if they're water logged. Cardboard ones plug up when the fibers mat.

Shouldn't you call RSI if they did the build? We don't know where the intakes or electrical connections are whereas the place that built you car should know the weak spots.

As to your question about AEM - the AEM is made to be wet without damage. The connectors and connections done by RSI?

im not an RSI fan but id call them first. i doubt its filters. gotta be electrical. my guess is the AEM wiring

Arent the filters for turbo cars mounted off the turbo underneath the car? If so I could imagine they could definitely such up lots of water on the highway if it is raining pretty hard.

remembered you saying you had a Greddy Management system, im not sure what that exactly is, but maybe look there ???

GReddy Electronic Performance System,(Model PRofec B-spec II ) controls the amount of Boost (Adjustable, Hi & Low) you want to run. Not an expert by any means but I believe it adjust's the fuel psi & timing with the AEM computer. Also controlling the Waste Gates. I know it's hooked up to those components.I think it works great, Set boost off, Low or High. I believe the filters got too wet & cause the problem, because once it stopped raining it drove OK. Mounting the air filters / Intake so low to the ground isn't the best idea, ESPECIALLY here in La.

This being my first Turbo car (2nd Viper), it was too good of a deal to pass up. I've put about 10,000 miles on the car & this is the only "Problem" I've had. Other than this I believe RSI did a Beautiful job on the car.I almost bough an 08 but Glad I bought this car.TT cars are unreal to drive.
