I read Lutz did it. Probably back then they were trying to build a brand, etc etc. Different time, different company. Back then it probably made sense, in hind sight maybe not.

I have spoken with the Assoc Director at the school, waiting for the Director to call me back, they said they have a local museum interested, so maybe this is an easy matter of helping Chrysler see the value of this being preserved up there...

Leno should purchase it just for his collection. It is automotive history. Anybody got this number handy?

Interestingly, Jay Leno bought a Tata Nano, which is not street legal here, so the gov't drained all of its fluids and such. I don't see why they can't do the same here.

Seeing this makes me sick. I watched two videos earlier of mint vipers being crushed and it hurts my heart. I lost my viper in an accident in 2012 and haven't been able to afford another. I was just telling my father today that I have so much love for vipers that I would give anything to have another in my garage. Even if I have to buy a wrecked one and restore it myself. I will find a way to get another viper. For Chrysler to just sit back and crush 93 vipers is wrong. I understand they aren't fit for street use. But there has to be other options here. Why cant these cars be donated or sold to people who will display them or part them out. I don't see why these vipers cant be corrected so they can be driven on the street. My wife laughed at me today when I said this is like watching someone beat your dog or child and you cant do anything about it but she just doesn't have the love for this car like I do. This just angers me.

Wow, in the NY area, this is on Channel 7 WABC news now. It is also on Fox News. Seems like a lot of bad press in that it shows that Chrysler doesn't seem to care about their Crown Jewel enough to save them. Completely totalled Corvettes are being pulled out of a giant sinkhole for very expensive restorations, but we can't save these perfectly fine Vipers?

Fully agreed ohlarikd! GM surprised a lot of people when the announced that they would cover the cost of fixing/restoring those 8 cars that fell in the sink hole. I've never been a GM guy at all, but that gains a little more respect from me for that move.

With this situation, I understand that probably many of these 93 cars were built specifically for this purpose- educational use only.
But I'd be safe to say that at least a handful of these early cars have good historical value like this #004 has. There has to be a way that Chrysler can/will donate these to a museum.

Greg, if this is a legitimate petition with the government, then maybe it can get sent out in a mass email to all members and requested to get forwarded to non members to be signed.

Maybe it's more gov't orders than Chrysler just deciding to destroy these cars?

Its is ILLEGAL for any prototype to be sold to the general public.At the time the Ford Gt was being developed i was fortunate enough to be present during a test session and asked John Coletti IF i could purchase the prototype being tested and he said it MUST be destroyed sooner or later

Exactly. Yet for Chrysler its a big legal issue. Anyway, the Viper from Mt. Hood Community College is crushed now. DUMB.
