The bolts that hold the rear bumper of my RT/10 are a little rusty as you can see from the pic above. Anyone know of what I can replace them with? Does anyone have a part number for them? Would painting them black again work or would the paint just flake off because of the rust. I am sick of looking at them and would like some advice on what to change them to etc.

Thanks.

I tried doing that at homedepot and lowe's with no luck. Could not match the bolts underneath the rear bumper to anything similar at those stores.

I too had this problem. I removed them, glassbeaded them and painted them with flat black paint...good as new. You could wire wheel them too I suppose.

This type of bolt with a large, captive free spinning washer is not something you will find at a hardware store. An auto body supply shop may have something similar and you could likely buy a box of 25 for what DC would charge for 5 bolts.

As one that has restored many older Mopars, I have in some cases been able to find correct replacements, but have more often had to have the originals replated as the heads are different, markings are different, etc.

FWIW, these bolts were phosphated, which is not the most durable finish. The paint will last much longer. Automotive fasteners in general are not plated with very durable finishes, like the clear zinc on the sill screws.

Another option would be to have them anodized. There are a ton of places all over that will anodize them, which will last longer than repainting them because before they are anodized they are cleaned down to bare metal, so there is no rust. Do that, and I'm sure they will last for 5-10 years.

Sorry guys, but I have no idea what you are talking about. Not very mechanically inclined when it comes to autos and methods used with them. What is glassbeading and what was is anodizing? How can I do those or where could I get that done? Also what is wire wheeling them mean too?

I used button head allen key bolts for a smoother look.....

If i get time i can price up a set for you just let me know which ones you want doing????
Dont forget i am in the UK as well.....

I did have to put nut serts in the rear arch to take a normal bolt rather than a self tapper.....

Glassbeading is like sandblasting. I have a cabinet so that is what I did. If you have access to a wirewheel either on a motor (like a grinding wheel), or on a drill...you can remove the bolts...brush the rust off...then spray paint.

grcforce327,
Did you get replacements from Chuck or were they something special like stainless steel?

Baz,
Thanks for the offer! If you can get me a set of stainless steel ones that will just replace the existing that would be fabulous. Let me know how much they are before you pick them up.

Thanks!
