Rear differential carriers?

Are they all same carriers?
I have a -93, is it possible to put in a newer carrier with 3.55 gears?
I would like to keep my old one as a complete unit and buy a new carrier with all the 3.55 guts in it. This guy has a -96? carrier for sale and I might be interrested.
This way I could switch back and forth as needed.

Tom:

are you sure the horizontal positioning arms/bushings are the same on Gen I and Gen II.

Gen I has a different mounting surface, as I understand. Was told I couldn't use it in a Gen 2.

So it looks like it is 50-50, Heh, heh....

Anyone here who has done it?
Looks like Tom and David are pretty sure about newer carrier fitting old -93 Gen1 car.

What the he**, I'll see what it goes for and if it wount fit I'll sell it to a Gen2 driver?

Any other views?

The rear diff from a 92 will bolt into a 02 or the other way around. The part number for a '92 rear diff 4642276 changes to a '02 rear diff 4763897ac.So yes you can swap one for the other.
