I was driving the Viper the other day and dropped it at the Valet (mistake) before a golf round. I walk up 18 (Eastlake) and the Concierge says that my car is making noise.. Long story short, the dealer just called and said that the rear end was toast and that it looks like it may have been sent from the factory without all of the bolts tightened properly. Nice.. Just thought I would vent somewhere..

FYI.. Andy at Gwinnett Place Dodge is great. He is a solid tech for Vipers.

Have a good weekend,

Brian

Another rear end problem. I'm going to find the best solution for this problem. I think all the guys that are moding there cars, and doing some aggresive driving, are going to have problems.

I'm working with several companies, for ugrading the diff.

Cool. The car has been driven very conservatively so I'm not sure exactly if it matters. There does seem to be a lot of issues lately..

Here is the update on this.. The dealer called and said the rear end bolts were not torqued properly and two of them sheared off causing the axles to come loose. The car must have been built on a Friday.

As noted in prior posts: cam bolts, harmonic balencer bolt, belt tensioner bolt, clutch bolts, rear end bolts...

Makes ME wonder if someone dailed in inch-lbs numbers instead of foot-lbs numbers ???

I've got a funny side note to this story. Last week, I was making my first mod to the viper. I was adding the K&N Filter system. I decided I would follow directions and disconnect the battery. When I tried to loosed the bolts holding the battery cover, they wouldn't budge. I thought to myself, if the same person that torqued these down had done all the other bolts none of us would have had a problem. I had to get the drill out and they would barely move with that.

Steve, just another reason to go ahead and upgrade to the Unitrax 3.55 gears.

Ps. Steve, on a side note I just had the Cobra dyno tuned and I am making more power than my Viper and am 1000 lbs. lighter. What a wild ride, now I know why your neighbor loves his! :2tu:

Seems we are all experiencing the same thing. To add insult to injury the weatherstripping on the passenger door got sh$% all over my new shirt. It looks like they (factory) put too much black adhesive under the weatherstripping.

The above was when I was calling the tow truck..

Lets close this thread and concentrate on mods and performance figures!

Take care,

Brian
