Can someone please explain to me what rear o2 simms do? Would like to cut out cats and resonators from 00 GTS. Dont care about smog or sound but want less side sill heat. I believe rear o2 simms send signal of converter operation to PCM so they must be located downstream of converter somewhere. If I were to remove cats and resonators and replace with straight pipe, is check engine light only pitfall with stock computer? Some have mentioned an altered A/F mixture as well. Why would this occur? Will Apex Snake Box I have heard about fix this as well as check engine light?

The CEL and the A/F mixture problems are NOT mutually exclusive and in fact are mutually inclusive. That is, if you remove the CATS, expect the CEL. Also expect the computer to richen the A/F mixture. The results of this are: Blubbery idle, additional fumes at idle and low RPM, and worst of all, the motor won't run as good since it is running rich.

The fix?

1) APEX o2 sensor simulators, they REALLY work. (Bill Kaiser with APEX is THE MAN!)

Additionally, Sean Roe's VEC-1 allows you to compensate (lean out) the richened A/F mixture to some degree but not all the way. The APEX sims are the big fix.

OR

2) Leave the CATS on the car

Grayman:

If you looking to reduce side sill heat, then hi-flow cats alone will do that just fine. I'm using Sean Roe's oval HF cats and the heat reduction is serious. In front of the cats (about even with the forward edge of the seat) there's still a little heat - hot but not burning. Behind that the sill is completely warm to the touch - NOT hot at all. No more singed legs!

Maybe this helps? My .02

Awww...shucks! Thanks for the kind words, Paul! And to think you were skeptical that our Snake Boxes would work!

Remember, everyone, that our Snake Boxes are plug-and-play. All you have to do is remove your rear O2 sensors, plug the holes using the supplied plugs (we even supply the allen wrench!), plug in the Snake Boxes, and mount them up to the frame. Easy as pie!
For any further information, just give me a holler.
