Just wanted to give any people on the fence a Heads Up on some speakers. I recently installed a set of JL Audio SW-0 6.5" TRUE Subs in the rear, and a set of Rockford Fosgate HPC-2206 Full Range in the front. My GOD do these things pound. All speakers are "rated" at 75 RMS, 150 peak. (as you know, both Manufacturers are VERY notorious for under-rating their products, and they DEFINATLY did so here)

The SW-0's handle all your lows, and the 2206's handle your highs, mids, AND have a rock-solid low-end punch as well. Both speaker types are top-of-the-line. 2206's also incorporate an ADDITIONAL set of built in tweeters w/built in crossovers.

BOTTOM LINE: If you like BASS, of just plain HIGH QUALITY sound, GO WITH THESE!!!

PRICING: PAIR of RF HPC-2206's: $150-$200, SW-0's: $75-$100 EACH.

FITMENT: SW-0's are a direct bolt-in, no screwing around. swap leads, finished.
RF-2206's are designed for flush-mount applications, so mods will be needed. DO NOT attempt this if you are not a "mechanical type", it isnt easy. basically, you need to screw the speaker itself to the door like stock-(WILL BE A TIGHT FIT) Then, you need to use some method of attaching the speaker grille to the speaker. In my case, I utilized Nut-Serts pointing backwards to provide an attaching point for grille. Total of 7 screws per front speaker. Wiring fits in perfect, just like stock. (when you drill the speaker flange for proper screw alignment, make sure you tape off the speaker internals... or you'll be buying another set!!!)

I can supply pictures should they be needed.

Let me know if you have any questions.

FinalGTS,

Are you just running the stock amps? Also, what ohm rating did you get for the subs, and how did you wire them?

Some pics would be nice. :)

Yes, stock 02 GTS Amp. Went with 4 Ohm Subs-(Stock system is 4 Ohm Fronts, and 6 Ohm rears, w/6 ohm tweeters in front)System can handle the 6-4 jump without a problem, and any aftermarket amp you may add will work best at 4. SW-0's are wired identicle to stock.

Just an FYI- I dont know how these speakers would sound if mixed with stocks... I recommend going with a FULL upgrade of both types at once, otherwise it may get thrown off with either too much bass, not enough punch, or not enough highs to make up for bass increase.

You have a Gen II, I thought there was only one speaker opening due to the glove box, is that correct, and if so where did you put the second sub?

As for me, I am still waiting on delivery of my car so I haven't even heard the "upgraded aftermarket stereo" that it comes with... so I'll assess and take it from there. Afterall, took me almost seven years to get my system just right in my daily driver (had to save up for Boston ProSeries ;) ).

Oh, where'd you get your JL subs, a quick search didn't seem to uncover many places that carry them. One place had them for $75 each.

you are correct, Gen-2 RT-10's have only one center sub. HOWEVER,I have a GTS. GTS's have 2 rear subs in the trunk, and none between the seats.

I got my subs from Daryll's Car Audio, (a local store). They are a B*TCH to find. If worst comes to worse, I can get them for you and ship them to ya.

I just got my first Viper, a 2001 GTS ACR. I have been looking at upgrading the stereo also. Is the amp in the driver's side of the trunk the only amp? Are those two speakers all the way at the rear of the trunk sub-woofers? If so, then I would expect that they have their own amp?
Thanks!

Yes, amp in drivers side is the only one. it is a 4-channel amp, and supplies power to all 4 interiors, and front tweeters. the stock system is set up so door speakers are full range, trunk speakers respond to lows, and tweeters supply highs. the amp has a built-in crossover to separate the highs and lows for the rear and tweeters.

Sounds very cool! I myself plan on eventually putting in a Clarion DVD/TV headunit, a 4-channel RF amp for interiors, and adding a monoblock RF amp and an 8" or 10" Kicker Solobaric in one of the trunks "cubby holes". I wouls also probably swap out the SW-0's for an additional set of 2206's as I wouldnt need them to be subs anymore.

We run a single 10" solobaric in my fiance's Neon... the thing hits HARD and clean (sealed box). Just as good, if not better than, my 10" Boston Acoustics ProSeries that cost substantially more.
