Hey all,
I'm developing a short list of cars I'm interested in, and about
half of them are a significant distance away. While there are
possibilities of me hauling them back myself, I've never towed
anything larger than a couple of jetskis, and not sure that I
trust myself to be hauling a car back over mountain passes. The possibility of snow/rain over those same passes is also what is keeping me from driving the car back. So.... I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for enclosed car transporters? I tried looking through the archives for carriers, but it didn't turn up very much; mostly insurance stuff. Any leads/contacts would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Mike

The Reliable driver I had ship from VOI was NOT good. They didn't use the lift-gate type truck, and it was all I could do to keep the **** from folding the ramps up into the bottom of my car, plus bottom out the car. His wife had to leave and sit in the car because he treated her like an *** , plus I was on his case.

Was not a good scene. I would NEVER use them again to ship my car anywhere. They are probably fine for factory shipping because the factory wouldn't stand for the stuff that happened to me.

I used VIP transport and they were real good. My ACR was probably the cheapest car in the carrier. Fully enclosed, lift gate, etc. About $750 from Chicago to Connecticut.

Try Passport Transport, they are listed on the www.movecars.com website. They have shipped some of our Vipers all over the nation and are very good. The trucks are high tech and the drivers are VERY careful. Not to mention good guys.

Recently used Horseless Carriage out of NJ. Driver kept me informed all along the way (numerous calls along the way since the weather was rough). Gave me some piece of mind as I waited. Had a new 2002 GTS shipped from TN to VA (through the mountains) in a nasty winter storm. Car was perfect when it arrived. The driver even backed the 53 ft enclosed trailer down my very tight neighborhood street (in the snow). I even tipped the driver $100 (hey it was the holidays).

another vote for Fred at Concours as noted above.

3000 miles trip for my GTS, informed with calls all along, and showed up early and slept in the truck waiting for me in the morning, doesn't get much better than that.

My GTS was the small fry on the truck, few Ferrari models, some vintage race cars, etc.........

Guys,
Thanks for all the rec's. I'm going to hit up all of them for quotes on one of the prospective cars, and see what they come back with. If there's any interest, I'd be glad to post a summary.
