Refinishing 1996 Wheel Center Caps

Has anyone had their Gen 2 wheel center caps refinished? I have a '96 and looking at the service replacements on-line, the finish inside the sneaky pete logo is a bit different (my original '96 caps look "smoother" in the logo background). Does anyone know if this is true or is it just an artifact of the computer?

It looks like I only need to have the clear removed and then recleared. Just wondering if anyone has done this and how successful you were.

Are you planning to do the WHEEL as well? Otherwise it would look obvious.
1996-7 GTS caps were an 'inferior' polish vs late 97+
