For some odd reason the search engine does not want to function for me so I figure I'd just repost this age-old question.

Side pipes on a GenII GTS. I know it can be done fairly eaisly, but what are the disadvantages (if any.) Also will the car pass emissions with a GenI exhaust setup?

Thanks again.

The cats are in front so I don't see why it would not pass the inspection. I have seen gen 1 pipes installed and pained the color of the car and also gen 2 sills with holes cut out (I think that this looks the best)

Pay attention! I told you already I have my original side pipes from my car. They are already red. R/T10 exhaust is the same place as what you have just a shorter version. You already need a rear valance/bumper cover assy. Buy an RT/10 cover and then you don't have to worry about closing up the rear exhaust hole!

Steve, unfortunately the RT/10 rear bumper cover does not fit the GTS. It is totally different. I have side exhaust on my 1996 GTS and the RT cover did not fit.

Oh well I still have the side pipe covers for him if he needs them.

Ps. Stop by early enough for pike creek cruise night and we can put on one side to see if you like the look.

Paolo, What part didn't line up? is it even close? Just eyeballing it, it looked pretty close.

Still playing at research Steve but I will definately take up your offer. I'll email you later this week depending on the job situation.

Its really not so much the physical ability for them to fit as it is noise and DMV headaches. The idea that I will need to replace the sills and rear fascia anyway has got me into the "what the ****..." mindset. I'm currenty digging through the archives now to see what the GT2 wing/sidepipe combo will look like in red but haven't found it yet.

Steve, the rear fascia for the RT/10 does NOT fit the GTS.

You might try and contact Paul Fischer for some pictures, I think he's stll active here. He had a red GTS with side pipes and wing.

I've had sidepipes on my GTS for almost 4 years. Love 'em! Not any more loud than before. No hassles with emissions as I still have cats, mufflers and rear O2 sensors.
