Hello everyone,

I would like to make a spare remote for my 1997 Viper GTS. I tried with a local electrician, but the remote has rolling codes, and the replacement remote only works once, the first time. Would it be enough if I order the original one, which is:

Do I need to buy it with the module?

Are there any cheaper alternatives or other solutions?

If you have the correct remote, you can program up to 4 remotes to your 1997
Viper without using a scan tool. Full directions were posted on this site over 20 years ago by "Ron".
I searched the forum, but unfortunately, I can't find that post.

Hello, All:

I would be happy to share this info...BUT I do not want to repost it here as it still resides in the "Illustrated Upgrades" section which historically has been a forum area closed to non-VCA Members. I certainly have no desire to undermine the VCA or to subvert the rules.

As stated, I am happy to share the info on an individual basis.

Lukas, I only received a very short text from you...no email address. I responded, heard nothing.

I did just text some instructions to you...but cannot be sure that they will reach you. Please confirm.

Not sure if things changed from 97 to 99, but for my 99 rt10 I bought a $55 key fob off amazon and it came with instructions. To double check I scoured the old forums and it was pretty much the same step by step with a paperclip inserted into two slots in the OBD2. All in, it took about 5 minutes of reading and 1 minute of doing. Here is a similar one on eBay, though it does say 98-02 only. When searching for 97, they are even cheaper. The second link I added states its for a 97 too. No need to pay viper tax on a universal part.
