HI ALL,Recently installed S&Bs and tubes on my 96 GTS. Should I cut the water deflector off? What would be the advantage of doing so? Would water enter the engine when washing? THANKS...00PROWLER...

The advantage of doing so seems to be up for debate. The only way water would enter the intake when washing is if you spray directly into the filters after cutting off the deflector.

I know a lot of club members have made this modification...and many have not. There seems to be more concern that you'd be caught in a rainstorm some day than washing the car. I've heard the argument that there is power to be gained by doing this mod, but as others have stated, there's more to be gained in what happens AFTER the baffle than before it. I tend to agree. I will bet you a nickel that there isn't much gain on the dyno by just eliminating that baffle. I must admit....I'd do it in a heartbeat if I thought there was really something to be gained!! pete the (ex) glass guy

Hard to dyno as it's hard to get 70MPH ram air.

Certainly no seat of the pants improvement and worse, you begin to fear rain clouds...

Worth almost a car length on the highway. I have done this mod on my last 3 Vipers. Really takes affect at about 60 plus. There's no problem with water inhalation as long as the filters are oiled every 3 to 4 thousand miles.

Fella's,

I just can't justify a mod like this. A few HP and a lotta fear of water/rain. I can just here a DC service manager if you have a serious engine problem. "Well Sir, that baffle was there for a reason - to keep water out. And the engine damage we discovered could very likely be caused by water entering the cylinders bores".... Blah, blah, blah.... Anything to get outta warrantee coverage, you know. If you decide to do it, I WOULD NEVER BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE WITH THIS MOD!!! Some of the service manager's are real SOB's. Unless you really know who you are dealing with.....
