Have Belanger Headers, Belanger Cats and Belanger Cat back.

If I remove the hi-flow Belanger cats what kinda difference are we talking here?

The viper is pretty loud now, but I want that thing to scream ******.

Will i gain/lose any power? How much of a difference is it from Hi-Flow -> No cats.

Thanks,
Jason

I cant speak for the Belangers....but I just installed B&B headers, Roe cat delete, and B&B cat back......It sounds amazing! Its quiet while cruising, but when you get on in, everyone knows. And its not raspy, its smooth all the way through the RPM range. We wont get into the fitment issues though......

Without cats is great. Ive heard B&B and Borla (old style). Either one makes the car loud, mean, obnoxious and downright wicked sounding......I love it. Not raspy at all. The Corsa tends to have a metallic/higher pitched twang to it. The Borla is all GRUMBLE and SCREAMING BANCHEE at WOT. I imagine there are several out there who would consider this setup to be too loud as it is VERY LOUD. But it sounds very good. I've been meaning to get some sound clips posted up, just haven't had the time.:drive:

I imagine going catless will not make that much of a difference in the sound level of your car.

IMO, Belanger with no cats is the BEST sounding viper ever.

After 60,000 miles under my belt with this set up.....I still agree. ....Have yet to hear better if you want big time rumble.

The Corsa tends to have a metallic/higher pitched twang to it.

We also have a Belanger header, hi flow cat, 3" Corsa car. The sound is considerably different from the full Belanger. I would add a little raspy to Crom's statement above. After driving this new one for a while, it kind of grows on you some. At WOT, it's got it's own scream. I have no intention of changing it. It's like having 2 cars with different personalities............but at the end of the day, the Belanger rumble is the real deal!

I also forgot how hot the sidesills get with the extra pieces in there. As a matter of fact, I have a burning memory from last night .

I have a little theory, as yet untested, that the mufflers used by each system contribute greatly to the sound out the back. After all, 3" pipe only fits in there one way from the front to the back. I don't intend on changing anything, but I'll bet if I put Belanger mufflers (Dynomax 3" Race Bullets) on our Corsa piped car, it would have a much deeper, less metallic raspy sound. I have not heard a spiraled muffler Viper yet, but have heard them on other vehicles the last year or two. They make a nice sound -- I thought I remember someone on here with spiral mufflers? I'm almost tempted to try them next when I burn out my 2nd set of Race Bullets -- maybe this summer.

hmm

Tempted to yank the hi-flow belanger cats out. Just not sure if its going to make that much of a difference.

I have emissions coming up, so wanted to pass emissions then yank them off and worry about it in 2 years.

The reason Belanger is deeper than the Corsa is because the Belanger is Aluminized Steel while the Corsa is Stainless Steel. The stainless steel exhausts will always be more raspy.

Like you said, nothing beats the Belanger Rumble.

GotAViper I'll take your cats if you aren't going to keep them. And hey, I'm only 4 or so miles from you...if that.

well ill sell them to you :) i just put the belanger hi-flow cats on, they have maybe 200 miles on them.

I might keep them for when I have to do emissions again in 2 years but.. maybe ill just sell them. let me yank them off first and see how it sounds

I've got Random Tech 3" SS with stock headers and Roe Hi-flow cats. Mine sounds exactly like the Belanger, except a bit quieter. I have Belanger 3&2 into 2 into 1 headers that I just removed the pickles from. They'll be going on soon as I get the laptop away from the wife to enrich the mixture a bit.

My car is a Roe sc'd '98 GTS and I love it.

It won't make much of a difference for sound as loud as you have it now. If anything sharper more treble-like noises. However decel popping will be way, way more noticeable, almost obnoxious popping...you may like it or may not....but flames here and there are a bonus. I have Roe cats (probably similar to Belangers), and they flow so well (you can see right through them) for negligible power gains without.
Besides no matter what anyone says, side pipes and catless you'll smell like a lawnmower, even if you can handle the smell, most chicks don't. Tried it for two weeks, had three friends comment on the smell ("can't breathe") trying hard not to care myself. Changed it back. Smells like a modern car now.

Good Luck,
Your '93 looks sweet btw. I have same red '94 with 18"s.:D

The reason Belanger is deeper than the Corsa is because the Belanger is Aluminized Steel while the Corsa is Stainless Steel. The stainless steel exhausts will always be more raspy.

But you've got to factor in the Corsa's different internal approach to sound control, where the Belangers are just straight thru mufflers. There was a Corsa muffler at one of the OH Viper drag meets a few years ago on display cutaway to reveal its' internal baffling.

Really quite different than a straight thru muffler's perforated approach ..

:drive:

Testing exhaust backpressure last Fall with my modified setup under the sills using a little 2.5" in that area, some experimental bits, and OE 2.25" tailpipes showed no backpressure at all at WOT. If double checking it this year still reads zero backpressure, I don't see the need for 3" plumbing..
