i would like to remove my cats to make the car louder. i do not have to worry about emmissions. is there going to be any problems, ie. computer probs, runability issues, or check engines. if so, how should i solve that problem.
thanks

You need o2 sims or your car will run rich and you can get check engine light plus you'll lose HP. Also you will not pass inspection if your state has a sniff test. I had only safety so there was no problems. For the best performance install VEC1. In total I gained 8RWHP and 12RWTQ.

Several folks with no cats shoot flames out the back of the car (don't know if this is because they have a cat-back exhaust in addition to no cats or not). Sounds cool but not for me, I went hi-flow 3" RT cats.

I went with the hi-flow RT cats as well. I figured that if I ever sold the car to someone in a state where they have emissions testing, it should pass. I know someone will say just put the cats back on but I wouldn't want to have to deal with the cutting and welding again.
There's also the odor to consider.

Rich,
I had the cats removed on my GTS (with sims) but could not stand the smell. My car smelled like rotten eggs. The ladies did not like it. I went to R.T high flow cats and I have been very happy with them.

thanks for the quick replies. i am looking to make it louder, not really concearned with HP gains. but if the smell is that bad, i may have to reconsider. do the high flows make it much louder?

Just take them off! Mine are gone and it's definitely louder! You'll have a little gas smell when you sit still, but it's not unbearable at all!

No cats.More sound,More hp,Less heat. You will need sims. The exhaust has a 1960's smell to it that I like.Seriously,If you can smell the exhaust you are either standing behind your car, driving backwards or going way to slow. Bruce

Ditched the cats on my Gen1.
Picked up more than 20 HP.
No disadvantages to speak off.
And my wife thinks its too loud, so I don't need to worry anymore she takes the viper to go shopping.
Talking about a win win situation :)

Flames only come out of mine on deceleration. The sill panels are much cooler and my exhaust was custom built with 3" flanges so if I want to, I can add cats in about 30 minutes. Dido about the wife thing! :D
