Is it possible to look up what number FE number you have by Vin number? I am planning to buy a FE with a missing Plaque on the console. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What Cody asked. If it doesn't have that then it is likely not an FE but rather a red GTS with white stripes added. You should feel a definite ridge on the stripes if they are factory whereas most after market ones are flush. I hope someone is not trying to pass a fake FE off. That would be a new twist.

Why are the FE stripes not flush? I remember watching the Barrett-Jackson car auction where the hosts on the floor were praising cars that had stripes with no ridge between the paint. They said this was a sign of a good job, where as the ridge is a sign of a lesser quality job. Is this the case with our FE's?

Yes the steering wheel and ship knob has the red stitching, however the plaque is missing. I tried to look it up through the FE website but found nothing.

TCKTPLZ,
The stripes on all Vipers are raised leaving a ridge. When I first got my '96 I was convinced that they were tape. My FE is exactly the same. Check out some other Vipers with factory stripes and compare with after market ones.

But what is the purpose of raising the stripes and leaving a ridge? It does not look as nearly as nice as flush stripes. Perhaps some cost cutting measures? This the only area in which I was disappointed with my car.
