How does the rev limiter work on the Gen II GTS? I was racing a dual turbo Vet today and I hit 6200 rpm's and my motor shut down and refired at 3000 rpms. My limiter did not break up like most other cars I owned. Is this normal? Yes the Vet kicked my butt anyway. That will be changeing. A local Mustang beat me yesterday too. Now he has 670 Hp to the rear wheels so no shame there. I'm all stock. When I raced the Mustang I was afraid to tack out my motor. Now I see I need to say under 6000 rpm's.

Is this normal? The rev limiter, NOT THE GETTING BEET.

Hey Bolt,

Although I've never reached that point in my car, KERSVPR was just talking to me yesterday about this very subject. Check with him as he is in the know, but by what you said, yes it's normal. PM me if you need his number. I'm sure ACELLER8 is very familiar with this too.
Just thought I'd post something...surprised noone else jumped in about a simple topic. But then again, not surprised.

So, I guess you're 0 for 3 now, counting the beating you got from me too !!

See ya round.

It is normal. You don't want to shift that high anyway. Shift at about 5,500rpm. It's safer on a stock motor, and from 5,500-6,000rpm you don't gain any performance. When I first got mine back supercharged I hit mine also a couple times. It definitely throws you forward!

I believe the rev limited in the stock PCM is a FUEL cut. So expect a puff of white smoke if you hit it. not that this is a bad thing... it is designed to protect the engine. the biggest risk is valve float w/ a stock motor (and upgraded valvetrain can allow the car to run to a higer RPM).

so don't worry. just don't do it too often. it isn't a good habit to get into.

Joe:

I was racing a vette in the finals of the viper-vette races a month ago - I was pulling him nicely, so went past the shift light and hit the limiter. I was surprised how hard the car fell on its nose. It was like hitting the brakes, the speed was off by 6 mph.

I believe it. 1TONY1 was racing hard once at a V-10 Nats event and he ran out of gear w/ his 3.55 gears. that car hit HARD.

but on most of these cars, there isn't that much of a benefit to staying in it past 5600rpm UNLESS you are about to be at the end of the track and you'd lose more time in the shift.
