Who knows where to get a good rev. limiter. I heard some bad stories about guys missing gears at WOT. Why don't Vipers come with this engine saving device? Or do they?

How? Here's my situation. I rent my car out. I'm in the process of trying to "bulletproff" it. I know I can't do this with everything, but, if I can lock the hood down, put a rev. limiter on, etc. I'll feel a little better in the end. Where's the parts man.......

steveb,

Your engine does have a shut down at ±6200 RPM, I know I've tested mine a few times in first....

Can you change it to say 5,700 RPM or would you have to replace it? Say you miss a gear or worse, shift into a lower gear at WOT. Would the limiter save you? Talked to a guy today (Think he had a 99 GTS) who said he did just that (lower gear). He dyno'd in at 375 RWHP today I think, said he was very worried he caused some damage.

The fuel-shut-off type, rev limiter is programed in to the ECM.
The system is not like an MSD box with a changable chip. Dan Cragin and some others can reprogram the ECM for you.

Yikes, I'd never rent to a out-of-country person because I rely on the renter's insurance (What a nightmare it would be to try to collect). Anyways, I have people sign off that you can't take it to the track (You lose your insurance coverage). If someone did and wrecked it, they'd be liable.

Steve, it may be obvious by now, but no rev limiter will save your car is someone down shifts when they want to go up. All rev limiters work by shutting off fuel and/or spark. They can only prevent more RPM if it is caused by a request for more fuel from your accelerator.

The limiter in our Vipers shuts off all fuel. It hits hard, you really know that you screwed up! My Talon has a much more gentle limiter, all you really notice is that you have stopped accelerating...
