Barry & Melissa's River Road Cruise To The Grafton Winery
Sunday August 22, 2010 (shine only)
Meet-and-Greet from 9:30 - 9:45 AM, depart promptly at 10:00 AM from the Drury Inn at 270 & Olive
We are planning to meet at the Drury Inn parking lot at 270 & Olive at around 9:30 - 9:45 AM for a prompt departure at 10:00 AM. Please show up with a full tank of gas and ready for a fun day of driving. From there we'll head down highway 270 to 370, connect with 94 and take this over to West Alton. We'll cross the Clark Bridge and head up the River Road to Grafton, IL. We'd like to suggest that, if we are on schedule time-wise, we head just past The Grafton Winery to Pere Marquette State Park where we can add a little scenic drive to the mix. Let's re-group briefly, if necessary, at Pere Marquette Lodge. There's a Vistor's Center parking lot just as we turn RIGHT into Pere Marquette Lodge from the River Road which should work well for this. If you've never been up on the bluffs at Pere Marquette, be sure to bring your cameras. Once you get up there you'll see why! We can make a quick 10-minute stop at one of the scenic overlook points, snap a few pictures and perhaps take a group-shot, take in the scenery for a bit and then wind our way back down through the rear entrance to the park which (via a short back-road) will connect us back with the River Road. From here it's back to Grafton for lunch!
By this time we should all be getting quite hungry and thirsty, so we'll try to get back to The Grafton Winery just before they open 12:00 PM. If we can get there just a little before noon it sounds we've got a good shot a securing the lower parking lot as a "Viper Pit" for parking. This will keep our cars in view as we sit above for lunch and drinks. Just a word of warning...I know from being there many times that the entry into the winery can be a little steep...so slither in with caution!
It looks like they have live music starting at 2:00 PM on Sundays for those who'd like to stick around a while. Check out www.thegraftonwinery.com and www.pmlodge.net for more information on the day's check-points.
For those who aren't familiar, here's the address of our starting point:
Drury Inn & Suites Creve Coeur
11980 Olive Blvd
Creve Coeur, MO 63141
Looking forward to a fun event,
Barry & Melissa
