Ryan,
I am interested, but new to Viper ownership. Can you fill me in on what my 96 RT has to have along the lines of safety equipment to participate?
Someone told me that I had to have 1997 or later wheels as mine are cast not forged. Also, what about a roll bar... do I have to install one, or just put on a hard top? I have been told both.
We live in Jacksonville Florida so it is not too far to go and have some fun.
Thankyou, Lance

Ryan,

It's a long ride for me from NW Florida but I'm interested. It'd be my first time at a track event...any restrictions I need to know about....such as school first....street tires OK etc.

I'm scheduled for Racing school in March along w Bill P et al. (Formula Cars) but if I can use my Snake for this and I'm allowed in before school I'd be very interested.

Please advise.

Thanks...Paul

Mr. U-2,
I used to own a 1989 XJ-S V-12 convertible? It burned in a horrible fire back in June 2002.

OH well...... now I have the 1996 Viper RT/10.

The spaces are filling up fast and i would like to see some more snakes at the Panoz DE. I see that some GA viper members talk a good game like CHRIS GTS and LINH. They seem to be affraid of the track but i know alot of other viper guys want to go have some fun. Lets go vipers bring it to the track and learn what your snakes can do that a regular sports car cant. ITs a great time and you will learn alot.

see ya at R/A

Malcoll,

XJS owner...then you'll appreciate this...

I had just bought mine...it's a clear cold winter's day...I drive my beautiful, freshly polished black Jag to the beach. My wife and I take a wonderful stroll a mile or so down, get cold and decide it's time to turn around and head back. As we look down the beach in the distance I notice black smoke coming from the parking lot..."Gee", I say "I wonder who'd be grilling on a cold day like this?"

Well the %^$*ing Jag was BBQing itself. Fuel injector leak..dripped on the hot block...ah Jags!

Rebuilt. Still beautiful but always a Jag!

Ryan - Are you still mad that we beat you at the Auto-X (sure, you only had one run, but it happened to be the slowest time of the day out of any of the Vipers, on any of the runs
smile.gif
).

As for seeing track time with the Viper, give it time. I've only had it for a month, and most of my track time is dedicated to the RX-7 (a lot cheaper to wreck, and besides... I need practice in it for the Pro-IT and Enduro series).

Anyhow, to answer your questions on requirements: http://www.panozracingschool.com/TrackDays_Guidelines.asp

There is a touring group for those who've never been, and intermediate group for those who have, and an advanced group for those who the Panoz school deems qualified.

$225 for Saturday, $325 for Sunday (advanced group), $500 for both days.

Contact Ness Sala at the Panoz Racing School to sign up. 1-888-282-4872. Or email him at [email protected]

Several hotels are in the area... depends on how expensive you want to go. Chateau Elan vs Holiday Inn

I'm not ready for the track for my Viper yet either. I need to autocross it a few more times before I feel comfortable taking it out on the track (which is what I did with the Z06). I am going to sign up for a Porsche Club DE at the new track in Alabama in April (but driving the Viper), and probably sign up for a Panoz track day in late summer.
I have spun the Viper both times I autocrossed it so far. On the track, that won't do, especially at a track like RA where several wrecks are expected on every track day.
I may come out in February and watch you guys, or hitch a ride if you're willing.

Dont judge autocross performance with track use. Its two different things. There are touring groups that are for novices. In fact most wrecks are in the advanced or instructor groups who are hanging it out.

On another note If you are not a PCA member you can forget the drivers ed @ Barber, It has big interest with a pca & grand am race sched for may. so join the club now if you hope to get in, its club members first & guests later

The Road Atlanta info can be found @ www.roadatlanta.com

Hello,hello again!

Well it seems like everyone got their quwstions answered. This is a rain or shine event with plenty of instruction. Glad to see all the interest and hope to see ya at the track driving your vipers. As for CHRIS GTS AND LINH " BRING IT TO THE TRACK". You guys can go in touring and learn the track. Stop with the crying and come have some fun. HAy chris I think i may become a PCA member to do Barber as well.

Hey achilles, try 1:43 @ road atlanta in your viper like Ryan did. He aint mad, just getting faster all the time. & for the record I got his car below 1:40 the same day

By the way did you join the club yet?

Hey Pete... I'm definitely gunning after Ryan's time when I get comfortable with the Viper. You are right... auto-x and road course are definitely not the same. I'm joining the VCA as soon as I am the legal owner of the Viper... I am having a h#$@ of a time transferring the title over to Georgia, etc.! All these darn rules from both states... emissions this, emissions that
frown.gif
, insurance this, insurance that... Rest assured, I will be joining as soon as I can (or can I go ahead and sign up already?).

Ryan - I love it... always talking smack! I guess you can't count the 3-day school at Panoz or several track days/SCCA races under my belt as learning the track, eh? Let's not forget LeMans 24 hours on the Playstation!

Seriously, though. I can't wait to "bring it to the track." With times in the low 1:40's, I'm definitely going to need more than these Pilot Sports to keep up.

P.S. - I'm sure ChrisGTS is going to pipe in soon... he hasn't been in touring in quite some time, and will definitely welcome your challenge to "bring it"
smile.gif

P.P.S. - Before anyone starts flaming... Ryan, Chris and I know each other personally and always give each other a hard time.

OH boy i see the troops are brewing, lets ggggooooooooooooo already and the only advice a can give is that "the spin machine is road atlanta on a cold day". BE very careful, you dont want to be the next totaled viper in GA. I will have fun ,fun ,fun until the police take my viper away.

Wanted to let some folks know that Track Days is filling up rather quickly. Touring is filled, Sat A has 5 spots left, Sat B has 2 spots left. Sunday has a few more openings. Please let me know if you have any questions.
