Looks like I will be installing Sean's VEC1. I am looking forward to the increased engine efficiency and HP but NOT the addition of the dials and the LED display. All the installs that I have seen place the "dial regulator" along console at the the driver's right leg and the LED display on top of the steering column.
Has anyone had any success with alternative mounting sites (that sounds like an advertisement for Motel 6

) that are a bit less visible? I expect that I will not be re-tuning very much, after the initial dial-in, but I would like to find a half-hidden place where I can still make adjustments (likely when the car is NOT in motion) - other than to simply hide them under the dash altogether.

I have the controller / dial regulator in the glovebox in my 98 GTS. A bit of a tight fit with regard to wire length and requires one additional small hole ( NOT externally visible, to get out of the glovebox and under the console), but otherwise no big deal - and one can always splice in some extra wire length if necessary. Out of the way and still accessible - like you said - when the car is not in motion!

The LED is another story... I like being able to see it so I have it in the typical spot

I have mine in the usual places and they don't get in the way at all, either physically (the adjustment box) or visually (the display). I thought they would at first, but they didn't.

Someone a while back posted a very creative and nice looking "hidden" installation. The box was in the glove compartment and the LED was in the ashtray. It had a very professional look to it.

there is also someone who mounted it (LED) above the dimmer dial; drilled holes for the LED lights to come through, mounted it behind dash.

I'm with Kenny. I had mine installed while I was at VOI, and I was leery about how it would look in the standard locations as well, but it's really fine. The box doesn't hit your leg at all and you can slide it forward or backward easily. It also doesn't stand out at all. The LED box looks fine and works best right where it is; you don't want to be moving your eyes very far from the road while checking your lights at WOT.

I don't know about the rest of you guys who have installed the VEC, but I have found it GREAT. The responce is amazing. Tell you this.....I feel a better responce from my 2000 R/T, than I did from the 2003 SRT and I attribute it to the VEC. Wish my car stopped as well though. Yeah I did the usual....exhaust, Smooth tubes & K&N, and Hi Flow Cats, but once I put in the VEC...WOW.

AS for where to install? For now I have the LED Display on the steering column and the dials under the seat, but that will all change soon..

After VOI, and the purchase of goodies, I have lots of installs and reorganizing to do in the car.

Thanks everyone. Some interesting ideas here! The Wiz's got the best suggestion but can't guarantee that the required drilling during the install will not invalidate the warrantee on my SKULL!

I was hoping to find that someone had found a mounting location that is very unobtrusive. A coupe install would allow the use of the fixed roof for overhead mounting...which I think would be best (no help to me). The ashtray is interesting, but where would I keep my breath mints?

Guess we'll keep looking...

I like my VEC1 in the ashtray. It's like a Ronco product, "set it and forget it". For the most part you do not have to play with the settings. The Blinky lights could get irritating to look at all day. I can see the colors easily out of the side of my eye. I can close the ashtray when I am bothered by all the blinkyness.
