I've done a lot of reading (yes, using the SEARCH function) on this topic, but couldn't find flow rates or a direct comparison of these two cats on the dyno.

I'm sticking with a 2.5" system, so I don't need the 3" hi-flows (not worth it to me to pay the extra amount for the 3" cats, when I know I won't be upgrading the headers, etc.)

Both the Roe and Random Tech (Partsrack) 2.5" hi-flow cats are the round bullet type, so the oval Roe fitment issue shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone know the flow rates for BOTH cats? Any other advantages of one over the other? The Roe cats are $249 shipped, and the Partsrack cats are $282.50 shipped.

When I bought the GTS, it had the rear muffler delete and I believe the Borla mufflers in the side sills (not sure... have to remove the side sills to check). No cats... which sounds great, but stinks too much to have as a daily driver in Atlanta traffic. I come home smelling like fuel and feeling like I'm high on something other than life :)

Random Tech Stainless / ceramic 3" cats, twin heat shields, flow 439 CFM.
Stainless/Honeycomb 3" cats flow 528 CFM. Bare 3" pipe flows low 600s.

5-year warranty

2.5" cats flow 390CFM... On our site we truthfully call em "MidFlows"

If you want to flow-test any cat, any brand, we will test it and report. Call me for details.

I'm assuming $249/pr is for the 2.5" RT hi-flows, right? I'll give you a call about flow testing the Roe's, but if you know the figures, can you post the CFM ratings for the Roe cats? Do the 2.5" RT's come with twin heat shields (like their 3" counterparts), and do they come with a 5yr/50k mile warranty like Roe's? Thanks Jon!

Did anyone ever test the flow rate of the Roe HF cats?

I'm buying hi-flo cats soon and currently the RT Stainless/Honeycomb 3" cats are in the lead. I'd like to know the CFM rating of all HF cats out there before I buy, though.

Thanks!

I need to replace my Random tech Hi Flo cats, bought them several years ago from Jon B. at the Parts Rack. Will stay with Jon B. for a new set of Random Tech's. For all around street use '99 GTS, 3" Corsa, 3.55 gears and a doctored PCM from West Coast Viper, which cats are better...the ceramics or the ss/honeycomb design? No idea here, but will buy what is best for my car. Advice, please!

We tested the 2.5" in / out cats with 4" round body in two ways, vs. stock cats:
1. Backpressure. They had less back pressure than the stock 4 substrate cats, as expected.
2. Dyno results. They made 9 more rear wheel HP than the stock cats.
We offer the smaller round cats primarily for those interested in reducing side sill temperatures, while also desiring the benefit of a better exhaust tone and slightly better performance (can be hard to feel 9 HP).
The ovals have far more area and free up almost double the power.
Both brands, the Randon Techs and ours, are good choices if you have to run cats.

Regards,
Sean

I forgot to update this post earlier...

I previously was going to go with 2.5" cats. I called JonB because at the time his 2.5" cats were the only ones that had a CFM number posted.

Jon of course tried to get me to buy the 3" cats. I didn't want them, and thought to myself, "Hey, this guy is a ****. I'm telling him what I want, and he's trying to sell me something more expensive."

Jon was pretty insistent, and said that since I had ordered some stuff before, he'd cut me a deal on the 3" pipe because he KNEW I wouldn't like the 2.5" ones. He even threw in reducers at cost.

Well, wouldn't you know... Jon was right. I installed the 3" cats with the 2.5" reducers. In about a week I switched to a full 3" setup, and cut the reducers out.

I usually hate "vendor X is a great guy" stories because they sound redundant at times, but in this instance I actually felt like JonB cared about saving me money in the long run. So, yes, I'm saying that JonB does have the customer in mind even though he can be short on the phone. And, I'm saying that people should go with the 3" cats over the 2.5" ones to keep their options open.

Ron - I believe I heard that stock cats flow high 200's, low 300's.

"I believe I heard that stock cats flow high 200's, low 300's."

Is that about right? Anyone?

RE: Jon B. I respect people with strong opinions who really know what they are talking about. Too many yes men out there these days. John knows what he is talking about. Purchased my exhaust from PartsRack and am very happy with the results and advice received. Successful people are busy. Jon is a busy guy. Good thing for all of us that he is.
