My wife picked up my roll bar that I had a local body shop repaint because I scratched it when trying to put it in. I was in Chicago so she picked it up. The bastard did no sanding (even though he promised and then preached to her how they spent time sanding it all down) and just painted over the scratches. You can still see every scratch and nick, but now with a thin coat of paint over them... I am about to spontaneously combust!

That is BS, how'd she pay, with CC hopefully so you could dispute it if they don't make it right. I would like to think that they would "see" what they did and have enough pride not to do that, but just the fact that they "did" probably means you are at least going to have to go off a bit, keep us informed and good luck. Do you have any pics?

If you decide to have it redone before you reinstall it I would have it powder coated. More durable and they would have to sand blast it before coating, many colours available.

+1.

Good luck, and try not to let it eat @ you. Stop the transaction if possible, and focus on getting it done right. I've seen so much shoddy work on so many things thru the yrs, nothing surprises me anymore ... which is a little sad.

I am going to try to find a place that will powder coat it. That's not so easy where I live as it is a pretty small area. Thanks. I will see what he says in the morning. If he isn't cooperative, I will stop payment on the check.

Is this the same shop that was going to paint the shifter and gauges bezels GTS blue for you? How did those come out of being painted? Haven't seen any pix?

George, Scott Miller from 5D isn't too terribly far from you. Shucks, he would have done a killer job.

I'd suggest painting it, rather than PC. You can match the paint to your car beter and it'll hold up just fine. Did mine in SSG and looks awesome.

That shop would have been my first choice. He did a great job on the bezels and the spoiler, but he hurt his back and is not working at full speed and thus has gotten far behind. He does great work and most if not all work for Roanoke Motors and John Gastman. He is going to fix the scratch I accidently put on the spoiler once he feels better and gets caught up.

George aside from it being a bummer about the paint work, it sounds like you are your own worst enemy, you scratched the roll bar putting it in, and you accidently scratched your spoiler....maybe you should stop working on your own car:D

George...put up some pix of the bezels!

Right now they are in a safely (I hope) in a box waiting for the roll bar excursion to finish. I figured if I put them in now I would probably drop the roll bar back against the dash... They look good and I am going to add the chrome rings around the guages like Rocket's Street Serpent. I will post picks once this extravaganza ends... :)

I did find a shop in Chicago that will do an ACR style stripe in vinyl. They said they have been doing vinyl for years and have the right tools to do corners and edges. They are about 2 1/2 hours away. Once I get this ------ roll bar issue resolved I am taking it up there. Thanks for asking!
