I heard alot about Royal purple adding HP to anything just by using it.

I saw a couple weeks ago on horsepower TV they changed all the fluids to royal purple and dyno'd before and after and gained 10 RWHP, think it was a setup to make royal purple look better or have any of you seen gains??

BTW im wondering because I did buy all my fluids for the viper in royal purple (except the tranny fluid because I dont believe they make the right one for the snake)

Thanks in advance guys.

Which do you see a better HP gain with... more yellow or more clear?? :D

It depends. For torque, usually a clear piss seems to do the trick. But if I am looking for that added highway pulling power I drink alot of OJ...

I would not use it! I have seen to many racing motors that have had bearing problems. The customers would then change the bearings and go back to the oil they were using, and no problems. 10 hp is not worth the protection that mobile 1 gives us. Horse Power TV is for selling parts and other crap. Just my .02

Was the comparison between conventional oil and royal purple? Because I would wonder what type of gain going from Mobil 1 to Royal Purple would give you, probably not much.

From my experience in oil company fuel economy testing (the EC-I, EC-II, etc words in the API label on the back of the bottle) I would say that 80% of any gain is due to lower viscosity (and I mean going from an SAE 15W-50 to a SAE 5W-30), 15% is due to friction modifiers (only when you use a thinner oil) and the last 5% due to shear (the additive to provide the multigrade properties is permanently harmed.)

Years ago, a NASCAR engine gained ~15ish HP from an SAE 20W-50 to a 10W-30, and a CART engine gained 12-ish HP going from a 10W-50 to a special 0W-20. Both are higher RPM than any Viper engine, so these gains are larger than any V-10 will see because much of the gain is windage.

If you really want to investigate gains due to the oil, search dry sump systems. Isn't there an OEM engine now with a dry sump - I think they found (and would not be too surprised) at 30 HP gains. The added plus is guaranteed oiling under any circumstances, the minus is the cost. (But maybe for 30 HP it's in line with other things.)

We use Royal Purple (can say that now that warranty has expired~~LOL!)...and found that we only need to change oil twice a year, runs clean, temps are lower, hp gains were about 7-10hp. That's with a dyno before and after...we will stick with Royal Purple XPR,
10-40, part #01041. That's just OUR experience...everyone varies depending on your mods....year Viper...dyno/tune. Mobil 1 0-40 synthetic is recommended, and we did use it, but found cooler temps (ALWAYS welcome!), and CLEAN oil checks. ~juli

I've seen more than one warning against using Royal Purple on street engines that aren't going to be torn down routinely.

Dry sump? Back when the Gen 3 engine was in development, a Chrysler engineer told me they saw a 30 or 35hp gain from adding dry sump during testing to determine whether they wanted to make it OE.

Odd, because most of the HP gains from dry sump systems are reportedly from the vacuum created in the crankcase. Yet it's also reported that you won't get a HP gain from creating vacuum in the crankcase unless you equip your engine with lower tension oil rings..

The C6 Z06 uses a dry sump system, as does the new ZR1. The Ford GT uses it, too.

I ran RP in my blown Z06, and I just filled my RT/10 with it.
As an added bonus, it tastes like grape punch!:D
