Honestly the original Shelby cobra had the same style gas cap which protruded above the plane of the body as this setup does...nobody seemed to have a problem with that. My opinion is that our cars are modern Cobra's, with many more options. I am seriously not worried if anyone else thinks it looks bad, to each his own right? :2tu:

Here is another one for those who appreciated the Shelby Cobra - which is also part of the reason I bought a Gen I in '94 anyway (with engraving by the excellent people at Zero Altitude Flight) :

I got the Gas cap from Jon B a few weeks ago. I have been debating on putting it on the way it is or to "customize" it. I have to say that I really don't like the Ring that sits it on the rear fender. I am wondering if there is a way to remove the ring and somehow secure it down so it actually sits "recessed" like on the GTS coupe...it looks like it would fit, but not sure if anyone has any advise? Thanks a bunch guys...

Re: Re pic of RT/10 w/ the \"wart\"

The FasRack ad from back in the day said "no drilling/modification required"...maybe the EBAY one is totally different...it does specifically say for a Mustang...

The EBay one looks similar, but is not the same. The Fasrack one was machined to fit. This cap is similar to the ones used on Cobras, but they were centered in front of the trunk lid, a better placement from a "looks" perspective, on Mustangs they are on the rear valance between the tail lights. Again, a pretty good looking spot.

I'm thinking you could set it in the fender... but you'll need to remove the fender to see, and do a ton of fiberglass work to recess it. There is a lot of room below the fender, but I'm not sure if there is enough for the big cap.

If I was going the flush route again, I'd consider using the SRT-10 Coupe cap. I really wanted one on my car, but they were not available when Ed was ready to do the work. So we went with what we had.

Jay, thanks for your input. I don't need to TOTALLY recess the gas cap, just enough so the it fits without serious modifications...i really just don't like the ring that sits on the fender...I need to really give this some thought....

Re: Re pic of RT/10 w/ the \"wart\"

I think the racing gas cap is a great idea for the RT/10, but the one pictured looks like a tea cup sitting on a saucer. We need MGW to design a modified version of their GTS cap for the RT/10.
