True story........ buying the organ donor now. Posted w/ permission of the "victim" :

Viper owner heading home at 615pm. Low light. Numerous witness have him at 35mph in 35. NICE RT/10. 1995. Pristine. The love of his young life.

White CAPRICE makes a turn rapidly from beside Fire Station, directly in front of Viper. KAPOW ! Viper nails Caprice.

Caprice driver breaks arm badly....3-4 pins to set in surgery. By the way, caprice driver is POLICE CHIEF responding (silent.dark.unmarked) to a call. OOOPS!

Viper driver was UNBELTED and takes out windshield with his noggin. Unconscious and bleeding profusely from headwound.

FIRESTATION noted above responds, (runs over) and unable to open car thru V-Mania windows. ParaMeds Proceed to slice open softop, destroying it, but STILL leaving driver 'caged' inside the stripped top.

Driver awakens (so he is told) to tell medics how to remove the roof! All the time, he is unaware WHY, so he does not explain the windows!

All ends well.......... but car is totalled. Chief ADMITS that it was his fault. City insurance pays off.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE !!!

Awesome police chief!!
He could have easily lied and said viper was speeding or he had his lights on etc, etc,!!!
It is really nice when people do the right thing!!!
glad it went well considering ... it could have been worst!!

why no seltbelt on?
Car is too fast and small(other car is a Navigator) for no belt.

That's a real shame. I know for a fact that the stock belts work very well. I used to worry about having a wreck with the hard top on and the VMania windows in, especially if there was a fire.

But I can't fathom why the chief admitting his mistake makes him "awesome" - he is a F-ING *****! Pulling out quick without (obviously) looking and no lights? *****! He endangered someone's life, totaled a car, injured someone and himself, and destroyed a piece of Viper history.

It's sad when we think it's "awesome" that someone who is supposed to be in a position of authority admitting a STUPID mistake makes him or her awesome.

I hope the guy gets enough $$'s to buy a brand new 2002 RT/10.

Even more sad is that so many people have been conditioned to expect the cop to lie and pull strings and were so surprised to hear that he was doing the right thing that they gave him praise.

Right on Chuck..

It's WAAAY to politically correct these days to "like cops" - but I've had TONS of problems in my life with cops - mostly stemming from the fact that I am pretty young and have had some decent machinery.

I've met a bunch of cool cops, but more than 1/2 have been real... well, I can't say such words on this PG-rated site. The good ones I respect immensely, the bad ones I have zero respect for.

And it *IS* very sad that we are all conditioned to expect him to lie. We should expect the opposite - being in a position such as he is should make him LESS likely to try and get out of blame.

Please don't feed me the "if you had to walk a mile in their shoes" crap - because I don't *have* to walk a mile in their shoes. I chose not to be a cop, just like they chose to be one... if anyone doesn't like their profession, then the good ol' USA allows anyone the freedom to change careers at will, and at any time. And doctors, EMT's, lawyers and numerous other professions cause the people involved in those professions to have to deal with bad people and messy situations, and I've never met an EMT, doctor, or lawyer who was a pompous a$$ - they are overwhelmingly nice folks, in my experience.
