Am I crazy for opting for an RT over an ACR? The RT has 3,000 more miles and is about $4k less, but has about a year on a warranty.

Depends on what you want. The ACR's differences add up to something like an additional $10k initial new-car sticker that covers the adjustable shocks, performance oil-pan, multi-point belts, and some other minor changes as well as removing the radio and A/C (unless it was added back in by the buyer). If you don't plan to do anything that the shocks or oil pan would help with (e.g. road racing), or you don't care for the ACR's versions, then I'd go for the RT because of the warranty (but then, I personally prefer the roadster over the coupe also).

Go for the yellow one.........

If your not a racer i would go for the roadster roof on roof of best of both worlds plus warranty..

But a viper is a viper at the end of the day...

Gen1 RT, Gen2 RT, GTS, and ACR are all different charactors
playing the same role of viper. Each have that their own
qurks and compliments so its really all a matter of taste.

I drove a GTS and a few RT/10's before I bought my car to help me make the same decision. I had to go for the RT/10 because of the open air environment. I love the looks of the GTS and I will probably have one of those too someday. It all depends on your personal preference. If I get tired of the open air I put on the hardtop. You can't go wrong with either one. It's still a Viper!

Drive them both and see which you prefer. Even though they are both Gen IIs, they are not the same to drive.

In the end though, you will be GOOD to GO with either! As both kick ASP!! :2tu:

open air = RT/10. Exclusivity = ACR. Remember, only 6,600 GTS built, of which less than 1,000 were ACR.

Or flip a coin - you can't lose. Good luck. let us know what you decide.

I have a 99 rt10...

recently my friend parked his 97 red GTS in my drive way right next to my 99 rt 10..

the GTS is by far more atractive....

Thats just the honest truth...However..with the top off of the rt 10..well it's pretty close visually...But the top on..No contest..GTS all the wayy.

On the other hand the rt10 has proven to be a little quicker in the 1/4 mile stock vrs stock..Hey..were talking like a tenth here at most do to the weight differance..

My rt 10 says it weighs 3390 pounds on the registration..I beleave the GTS is around 3460 pounds...So 70 pounds less weight for the rt 10...and thats with the top on...take the top off the rt 10 and now your looking at a weight of 3355 pounds...About 100 pounds less weight than the GTS..

To most people the weight differance means nonthing..but to me that means that my rt 10 with the top off is the lightest Viper you can buy on the market..The SRT 10 is around 3390 pounds..But with the top down the weight stays the same 3390 pounds...

But to the GTS...Well a stock GTS can hit 190 mph for top speed while the arodynamics of the rt 10 leave it around 180 mph...

Too me thats also a huge deal..not that ill ever go that fast but when people ask you what she'll do..180 sounds nice but no were near as good as 190....

Honestly I dont know if their is a right decision here...I want a GTS but will miss taking the top off..I want the SRT 10 but will misss the gen 2 appearance...

GOOD LUCK

The ACR oil pan is exactly the same than the GTS/RT.
I think that some of the confusion come from the facts that early ACR brochures were making references to a special, competition type oil pan,but that was never put into production.

If you think the RT only looks better with the top off you might consider the Stowable Viper Hardtop. Best of both worlds as a convertible in the summer and a great-looking hardtop in the winter.

I mentioned the competition oil pan only due to it being specified in the build info section of the Viper Club web site - http://ivr.viperclub.org/features.php look under the year 2000. According to that info, it was added a year after the ACR's introduction (so, not the initial introduction). I have no personal knowledge of whether it really exists or not, as you say.

The ACR does have a different oil filter adapter though. In the GTS (and I would assume the RT/10 as well), the adapter stops the flow of oil to the oil-cooler at lower RPMs to help keep the efficiency of the air-conditioning up (the oil cooler sits in front of the AC cooler). In the ACR, the oil never stops flowing through the cooler. I've not noticed a problem with it though, mine blows cold air even at idle sitting in traffic.
