My '01 has sagging head liner pockets. I've seen this on almost every Gen II that I've seen, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried repairing the worn out elastic?:dunno:

Replacing with new sounds like a lot of work and/or cost ... has anyone tried hand sewing a strip of fresh black elastic to the back of the sagging strip? Anyone have a better solution?

I've only had my car for about 10 days & have never used them. They don't look like they could really hold anything in there though, without falling on your head. What do people put in them.

I was just looking at mine today and thinking the same thing. My take is that a trip to the fabric store will produce similar elastic; its just a matter of some snipping and sewing. If I get an extra moment for this job I will post pictures of the fixed pocket. Industrious women used to do this stuff all the time--you know, a stitch in time saves nine...For an upholsterer, this would be a snap.

I used to keep extra shades in it until a pair ended up in the rear compartment during a hard pull. I was in awe...

Just a thought, as I haven't seen the sagging pocket problem in person. But, is self adhesive velcro strips an option?

Self adhesive probably wouldn't work too well, but stiching some velcro to the roof liner would probably work, and it'd keep things from flying out when you take off hard. I use to keep my insurance paper up there but had it fly out and land in the storage area above the glove box so I just left it there.

Those headliner pockets are available (or used to be) as part number PB58DX9, "Net, Overhead Storage". They are held in with clips from the rear.

The real problem is getting behind the headliner. It uses push in clips with a fuzzy head, QKSX9. It's also held behind some interior moldings.

(It's a crazy story but many years ago I had to replace the headliner in my GTS. I was working on the Plymouth in the garage and had to keep the GTS in the trailer. I used a small mirror to ensure the car was centered in the trailer. (I'd hold it out the window to see where the rear tires were in the trailer) I left this mirror on the floor of the car for a moment or two and the sun reflected on the mirror burning a hole in the headliner.)

I took my headliner out to wire my V1 & TPMS display. It came out easily and all fasteners were reusable even the button head xmas tree fasteners. Using the right tools works wonders.
