While my buddy Mike and I where driving around this evening we ran into a Super Charged Corvette C5. The car was yellow and obviously had a lot of work done to it. (Super charged, full exhaust, etc.) It was a really clean car and the sound that came out of the exhaust was truly amazing.

I am not usually one to street race (especially when I think I am going to lose LOL) but we both pulled off into a near deserted street. Where we both felt it was safe to race and I said what the hell.

First Race:

We go from a roll from first around 20mph. I get a 1/2 car length on him at the start (he spun a lot)......................I shift into second then I slowly start to pull on him! At the end of the race I am about a car length ahead. We then both shut it down. To be honest I thought he missed a gear or something so I didn't think much of it. As I was expecting to get killed.

Second Race:

We go from a stop (3 honks) I immediately pull a 1/2 car on him as he spins the wheels. Second gear comes and I am slowly pulling on him where he is between a car to a car and a half behind! Third gear comes and I don't pull much more on him. We both shut it down.

I am not sure how but I won both races. In fact before I raced him I was thinking how I was going to write "how I got killed" here instead. Hell I still am a little perplexed.

Out of curiosity I ask him to stop at the gas station down the street in which he does. His name was Jeff and I start to ask him about his car. He tells me he has a procharger, full exhaust, etc. I say wow what do you put down? He replied 480 RWHP.

Again I am not really sure how I pulled on him (after his wheels hooked up) but it was a nice surprise. And probably my favorite street race.

In the right hands that Vette should have edged you out, at least on paper. 480 vs 412rwhp. But anything can happen on the street. Thats why you race even if you think you are outgunned :smirk: ...BTW its not like your car is slow. Since you got the jump on him it would be hard for him to reel you in unless he has a ton more rwhp than you. Im sure you had him beat in the torque area as you kept getting the jump on him....Nice kill :2tu:

480rhwp SC C5 is about right. As they come stock with what 300rwhp. That's a large jump. The ones I have raced with SC and engine work have put down mid 500s.

Let's not forget you are driving a Viper. So the guy in the C5 had to be shaking from finally getting a chance to race against his DREAM car! :p

Way to go! :2tu:

Just curious, what kind of tires are you using? I had a similar run against a cobra. He was running DR's, I had Pilots. I couldn't get tracking until 3rd(where I finally passed him), he was running DR's and got the jump on me. Getting good grip off the line can make the difference.

Kumhos, unless Dan changed things.

Nice work, Dan. I bet the tires were the difference.

Yes, I love my V700s!
:)
Thanks Kurt and everyone else for all the kudos. :2tu:

The guy seemed like a nice guy but you could tell he was pretty upset he lost. The first thing he asked me was "Do you have a super charger in that"? I told him what I had done to the car (see sig) and you could tell he wasn't happy.

Story sounds believable to me. He couldn't hook the car up, traction-wise, so either he has bad tires or is a bad driver...or both.

Nice kill.

I personally would not post a kill since this is not proctected speech. If I ever ended up with a reckless driving charge, a resourceful DA could look up this website and use all my posts against me. That being said I plead the 5th on any of my personal driving habits.

I think that may be a little unlikely. :)

Nice kill

But is sounds like the Vette Driver was rather lacking (Not taking away from your car by any means). A 520BHP car that weighs 200lbs less shouldn't lose to a 450-465hp car that weigh s 200lbs more. It sounds like he had traction issue.

But as they say ANYTHING can hapen on the street.

Torque wins street races not HP. Line up a 1990 turbo supra with 232hp against a 1990 mustang with 225hp, and watch the supra get handed it's ***!

By your example a Dump truck w/ a Turbo Cat or a Cummins w/ increased boost would beat anything on the street, but that isn't so. BELIEVE me I'm making 586BTQ N.A. in my Stingray, I know very well what torque is. Besides a blown C5 w/ have it's fair share of torque as well. Sounds like the Vette lost traction and gave up the win.

Yes, the Vette driver wasn't the best. Spun a lot in first gear especially the first race. But once he hooked up he didn't gain on me. I am not sure why?

That's why I gave an example of real world cars and a street race. Not a caterpillar motor against an indy car. You are probably right, the Vette spun and lost, but

Lay a Viper pull overtop this 638hp C5 Procharger pull and look at what you have to use from 2000RPM - 4500RPM. The race is over before the Vette gets to take a deep breath. The track would be a different story though.

You must be registered for see images

and this is 638hp at the wheels not 480hp.
