The install is moderately difficult and results in the seat being 2" lower (front and rear) and bolted into the rearmost fore/aft position.

Investigate seating options carefully before making your purchase. I bought the kit and it didn't work for me. NWE was very good about accepting the return, but I ultimately had to pursue another solution (see seperate post).

Bobby,

I also installed the 2" seat lowering kit. It takes a little patience and time but for me it worked out perfectly.

As jrkermode stated, the 2" does not adjust so you should be pretty darn sure before installing. North West Engineering does make a 1" kit that will adjust.

I am with Act autopia. I have the 2" kit in my GTS and it makes a world of difference!
The install will try your patience a little, as it takes some time to get everything lined up properly. But it is well worth it!

I also installed the NWE 2" seat lowering kit. It really isn't too difficult to install. No special tools or expertise required.
I just took my time and it worked out just fine. I'm 6'4" and needed every inch of room that I could get. Made a world of difference. The car is still a tight fit for me. I always drive with the top off. I can live with a little discomfort. The car is great and a lot of fun to drive and modify. Good luck!!

I understand the fact that the seat lowering kit will lock the seat in place...but how will this affect reaching the pedals?

I am looking to purchase a used Viper, and it has the 2" kit already installed. I am only about 5'11", so I am concerned about my ability to easily reach the pedals and be able to floor the clutch.

I can replace the seat kit with the original factory set-up, but I am just wondering if this is an immediate need, or if I will still be able to drive the car without a problem at my height...

Thanks...

sit in the car with your back against the seat. Put your hands on the wheel like you're driving. If you have to pull on the wheel and your back leaves the seat you are too far back.

I like to have the wrists even with the wheel

I am 6'5" with the 2" kit. But my Wife is 5'6"!! This means a couple things, first she doesn't drive My Viper too often(oh, sorry 'OUR' Viper!! hehe), and when she does drive it, she must adjust the pedals all the way up and put a pillow behind her while also putting the seat back forward!!
2" kit is fixed!

If you want to keep adjustability on your seat, one way to do it is use the 1 inch lowering kit and remove the webbing from the bottom of the seat cushion (which resmbles a trampoline with hooks holding it in). This will drop you an additional inch, but will drop you into the cushion lower and make it more snug.

One word of warning, on my '96 GTS when I lowered my seat, the new rails seemed to rest the bottom cushion farther foward than I expected. If you have long legs, it could possibly come in contact with the dashboard on the left side. I noticed this when sitting in someone's '02 GTS. I think it can be attributed to the fact that the bucket that the seat sits in, tapers at the bottom. Therefore the back surface is actually closer to the dash than it is using the stock rail hardware.

A friend of mine who does custom car upholstery suggested this.

Just my $.02. Good luck.

Brad
