Seibon hoods

Does anyone have any input on the Seibon carbon fiber Gen. 4 style hoods?

I can't say about theirViper products, but I had several Seibon pieces on my 350z; hood, wing, front lip, and the quality/fitment of them all was near perfect! Very few flaws in the cf, and very few issues with anything. Good company!

Finally got my Seibon hood, ordered it on March 10th. Looks as good in person as it did on the website. Installation was very easy. Fit perfectly first try. I played with the latch a little and the fenders could be moved in a hair, otherwise practically fell into place. Compared to the stock 2004 hood first impression is it is a little flimsy, but once installed you can't really tell much of a difference. The stock hood weighed about 47Lbs, the Seibon about 30Lbs. The overall quality isn't on a parr with a stock hood, but once the hood is closed the appearance of the overall carbon fiber is most satisfactory. The price delivered to the house was $1117 and no other real prep work needed. If anyone else was interested in this swap, my opinion so far is most positive. I'm sorry I don't know how to post photos.

I have a Seibon hood on my 04. Here are my thoughts. It actually was a fairly good fit with some minor adjustments and it did look really cool as the CF was laid well. 1st, On the stock hood the mounting points are studs where the Seibon hoods have molded in the frame threaded nut. 2nd, I had to remove all the rubber pads along each side of the fenders because it held the hood up higher than the fenders. I made some tape pads to fit the hood and will make some permenate ones from my measurements. 3rd, I also noticed that in the sun the hood bows upward in the middle. 4th I took off one hood shock becausethe hood was so flimsy I thought it might snap. The latch seems strong but, advised if drag racing to use hold down pins. To mount pins on this car it is really going to take some fabrication and I have yet to take that project on. If I was to grade this hood for racing I would give it a 5 for looks 9

I was told the need for hood pins is because of the bonding process used on the hoods latch strap. With time they tend to weaken. I cut off the one that came with the hood and fabricated a metal backing plate and used it to secure a metal plate with the new latch strap. Since that area is a molded part of the hood I think the entire hood would have to come apart before the hood would fly up.

Wow, and I was thinking replacement hoods and Carbon Fiber hoods would be pricey.

Might not be a bad idea to have one on for track days and such. If you have a minor issue that could total the car because of the hood, the OEM hood would be perfect and in the garage. Just having a different hood might save you from having to deal with a totaled car. Just a thought.

Here is a video that I shot when I helped Chris install his Seibon Hood, Nice looking piece on the top side , but extremely flimsy and as u can see from the video, the "carbon fiber" or so they call it is super flexible, the inverse of what and why people get CF, it is usually stiff and light.
