After giving it a lot of thought and reviewing all of the alternatives, I have decided to sell my 2001 ACR.

It is Sapphire blue, has 7,900 miles and is very clean. I have all the original paperwork and manuals. Always garaged, never raced, tracked, wrecked or abused. Basically a really nice, solid, high quality ACR.

I am asking $56,900 and will consider any reasonable offer.

More details in the classifieds

Thanks,

Jim

I originally bought the car with the intent to track it. It was somewhat of a stretch financially and after I had the car for a while, I realized it was relatively rare and virtually perfect. It has all the white production stickers on all the panels. Even the original 5 point belts are still in the factory bubble wrap and have never been buckled! If I had stuffed it into a dirt berm or a tire wall in an off track excursion, I would have never forgiven myself. My plan now is to sell the ACR and look for an older, less expensive Viper with a lot more miles that I would not worry so much if a minor off track episode occurs.

Given that, there's room for you to do a trade with someone here, gives you more options...

Just keep it, race it, and don't worry about it. You already know your car inside/out.

I'm sure you won't have a problem selling it for that price. If I don't have a Viper yet, I'd be the first one checking out your car.

If you end up buying another Viper ("less expensive with a lot more miles"), will you forgive yourself if you find out after you bought it, that there is something wrong with it?

Believe me, I would love to "keep it, race it and don't worry about it", but there are several factors to consider. When I had originally considered tracking the car, I thought that my insurance company would cover me at "driver training" courses at a racetrack. After I had read about the issues with other insurance companies on this board a few months ago, I checked with mine and was told I would not be covered. If I did damage the car, or worse yet total it, I would be writing off a fairly expensive car. I am not really in a position to absorb that type of loss right now. Also, as I had mentioned earlier, the car really is in great condition and even a minor incident that required repainting or suspension repair would have made me feel like I had screwed up a pristine car. With those issues in mind, I just couldn't bring myself to race the car as it was meant to be raced, flat out at 100%. I think that a substantially less expensive car will allow me to worry less about the car and focus on driving to the limit of my ability and the cars potential.

I am hoping that after owning my Viper and reading the boards, I can find and identify a good older car that has lots of miles, but would make a suitable basis for a track car.

One of my main reasons for getting a 2001 was for the ABS. I felt that on the track or during spirited street driving, it would add a bit more margin for error, especially under hard braking when entering a turn. In my limited experience, this is one of the times when the risk of spinning the car or an off track excursion are at the highest.
