Service Engine Soon light?!

I had my Service Engine Soon light come on when I started the car yesterday evening, and I noticed I was low on gas but not THAT low, i.e. I hadn't just filled it either so I didn't think the light was due to a loose gas cap. I reviewed the past threads on this, and from what I gather, this is likely an O2 sensor problem? What else could it be? Is there any reason I should not drive it on a long trip this weekend before having it serviced next week? I thought about doing the battery disconnect for 1/2hr to see if that would fix it, if it does or doesn't, what would that mean the problem was/is?

I hope you get it figured out and it is nothing major. Any chance you could pop by a decent Dodge dealer today and have them pull the trouble codes? That would help diagnose it for you and give you a little peace of mind for the weekend, even if they couldn't fix it today.

One other suggestion: Don't discuss that luggage rack idea near your car. You may have upset her and she is letting you know it...

The check engine light very well could be an oxygen sensor problem, but it could be a number of other problems. Simply put, it's there to tell you when the computer see's a problem. I wouldn't take it for a long trip until you have a tech pull up the code. Then if it's a nothing code, enjoy the trip! It should only take a tech a couple of minutes so I don't see why they couldn't help you out, especially if you plan to take the car to them next week. Good luck, hope it's nothing!

I just took it by the dealership, and they were unable to figure it out, said it was probably something isolated, and turned off the light. It didn't come back on for the 1/2 hour ride back...

They hooked their code tool up to it, said it was the only way to turn off the light short of unplugging the battery. I asked the price, they said about $3-4k, so I suggested that the tool was small enough that it'd fit in my trunk, but they didn't go for it

The EASE OBDII software that Sean Roe sells gives you the ability to view and reset DTC's. However, the car must be a 96 or newer to support OBDII. Not sure about the older cars...

I've had **** service engine light on for 65000 miles!!!
Ever since all the engine mods.O2 sensors are culprits
rich...........
