I am like 6’ 3” and I hate the fit of the viper. I am thinking about getting a 1994 rt/10, and I notice that northwind sells a 2-inch seat lowering kit. Does anyone have one installed on their Viper. I am hoping that it will make a world of difference. Any experiences, especially you tall guys?

6´5 here, but I haven´t seen the kit in a Gen I. I havethe 2" kit in my GTS and with the pedals all the way down, it makes a world of difference! It is a MUST have!
The only problem I have is the support under your legs is gone, which is a problem on long trips. I have seen on here where some one has the kit with some Shimmie´s to raise up the front section! This is what I plan on doing next summer!
But it is a much better fit for me now!

I'm 6'5" and have the 2" seat lowering kit on both seats. Woodhouse Viper installed it before I picked up my new Viper. I drove it about 200 miles and the next day had my first oil change and had the seats shimmed up in the front 1" for leg support- a huge improvement - and then I drove it almost 800 miles home in one day.

Even with the 2" seat lowering kit I couldn't fit in the RT-10 with the emergency fold out top on - my head would be almost 3" taller than the top, so I got the GTS, where I now have almost 3" of headroom.

There's a whole lot more tall guys out there that didn't speak up, but almost all of them have put in the seat lowering kit. Not only am I 6'5" tall, I weighed 335 pounds when I got my Viper and never had any problems with the width of the seats in fitting in comfortably. I've lost over 20 pounds now and still fit in the seat most comfortably.

6'3"+, 235#.

Northwind 2" drop.

Shimmed front up 1 1/4", with washers.

Do the "winglets" bother anyone besides me? They cut me right in the back of the shoulder, and prevent me from sitting back into the seat. (Unless I roll my shoulders forward, which is uncomfortable)

Bigr1,
Do a search.

Vic,
I recenlty put my stock seats in while I work on my Sparcos. I had forgotten how uncomfortable the upper seat back is.

I am 6'4" and have the Northwind 1 inch lowering kit installed in my 97 GTS. The benefit over the 1 inch kit is that you can still adjust your seat. My wife is vertically challenged so it would be politically incorrect to use the 2 inch kit where the seat will not adjust. Don't know if this is a consideration for you or not. With the 1 inch kit I can even wear a helmet in the car.

I have a 94 with the Northwind 1" seat lowering kit which still allows the seat to move about 3" f&b. With a VMaina top I can sit comfortably in the car with a helmet on and my head does not hit to roof. Oh, I am 6'4", but shrinking with age. The 1" kit gets you about 1.5" lower. The kit is very high quality.

hope this help, tw

i did a search, since i will be the only person driving this car and being nearly 6'4", i think i am just going to go with the 2" drop.

one more question:

i have read, from the archives, that alot of guys use the term, "Shimmed front up". whats this mean? what does it do? how is it done? and what are the pro's/con's? thanks!

The NW kit lowers the front and back of the seat about 2". For many big guys this leaves too little thigh support. So, you need to raise the front of the seat. This can easily be done by removing the bolts that attach the front of the seat to the front NW brackets, getting longer bolts, and reattaching things with some sort of shim between the bracket and the seat. The shims can be just about anything. I suspect most guys simply use a stack of washers.

IMHO the front NW brackets are a bit rickety to begin with. Shiming the bracket makes matters worse.
