Who has one? Any recomendations? I dont' want a 5" monster tach or anything, just a shift light that can mount to the steering column or someone close so I don't have to watch the tach. Autometer, VDO.......?

Hmm.. I had a shift lite in my '94. Was an Autometer or MSD; it had the yellow rpm pills you stick in it.

It was inaccurate for a 10 cylinder, but consistently so. I think the lite would come on early like at an RPM 20% ahead of the rpm on the pill.

So I just used pills that had a higher RPM that I wanted and the lite would come on just right. :)

I think it was an MSD lite (it's been 8 years...), they gave me 5 free pills to cover the RPM range I wanted .

I've read where RPM window switches have to be redone at the factory for use on the Viper..is that really necessary, or can't you just set the window switch at a higher RPM to compensate for the 10cylinder 'effect'??

FE 065, you did what I do. Trigger off the tach signal and 10 cylinders is 20% more than 8 cylinders (what the light is actually made for.) Therefore you stick a 20% higher pill in it (6800 RPM lights up at 5440.) It looks a little funny when somebody notices a 7200 pill for a V-10...

Actually this gives you more fine tuning, since the RPM spread between pills is less than 200 RPM.

Ya, that big ole 7000+rpm pill fooled a few people :) On my '94 I could reach up under the dash to the tach wire connector without much trouble and stick the hot and pulse wire in there as needed. On my 2002, I found a big plate blocking access to the underdash area where the tach pulse connection is. Can't see a thing ! Guess I'll have to pick it up by the computer :( I've got an adjustable (dial on the back) shift lite to put in it..

I mounted the control box in the left side of the drivers footwell just under the top of the carpeting. This made the connections easier to attach to the right wires. The light itself has a very nice braided sheath that runs to the control box. This I routed up under the dash came out between the bottom of the dash and the top of the steering column. I used a small velcro pad to mount it on the steering column between the tach and the speedometer (right next to the A/F meter for my VEC-1). The light itself is extremely small and very inconspicuous, but it definitely is bright enough to see when it lights.

Another thing, I bought one of their dual color LED lights. You can set two setpoints so one color can come on at a different RPM than the other, but I would not have bought this again. When you are running to your shift point you want to react to the first indication you see. A yellow light at 500 RPMs before the red shift light comes on is distracting. (Takes too long for my brain to process the yellow light and not just react and shift.)

I bought the Autometer. It is pretty cool. I'll post pics of the install when done. Now if only I could figure out where to hook up the TACH signal...

I am using G-Tech. A good shift ligth is 100$ and G-Tech cost 250$. I think it worth to spend more on a G-Tech.
In addition it looks great and impressive.
My G-tech is 99% precise and the adjustment was very very easy. In fact it uses the electrical noice of the engine to detect the RPM. Fancy isn`t ?

Oh yeah... I got the GTECH also. I _love_ it. Problem was that when I'd race in the daytime, I couldn't see the light. Also, I discovered that I don't like the shift light that builds... set it for 6000rpm and it will blink one light at ~5650, two at 5800, and all four at 6000!

But I dig that Gtech...
