I have a MGW shift knob, but I am interested in the B&M etc. short throw shifters. Are they worth the money and are they an easy install?

Get one from SVS! I've heard of problems with the B&M. I just did the SVS shifter. The quality seems better than B&M, and rowing through the gears feels great! I waited too long to do it!

Thanks for the info BigCarrot, is the shifter available now from SVS? If you are using a MGW knob, how is the fit? How about the shift pattern, does it help eliminate missed shifts? At the drag strip I was missing shifts like a ****.

Yeah, I have the MGW knob, and it works great. The difference is very noticeable! I had problems with third gear that I have never had in any other car. The spring in this shifter are much firmer, so when you come out of second it lines third up perfectly! I took my car out Sunday night at 12 just so I could do bunch of shifting! lol It makes driving the damned thing a lot more fun! The install was pretty easy too.

I had both, and prefer the SVS. The *old* B&M has problems, and the newer design (about 3 years ago) fixed that issue.
SVS or B&M + MGW = VERY short throw (too short for some).
Install - NOT a no brainer. It's not rocket science, but you need to take off the tunnel cover and (at least on a Gen I) drill out the rivets on the shifter cover. After you've done that, it's not a big deal. One of the shifter mounting bolts is hard to get to (again on a Gen I at least).

I'd have to go with Carrot's opinion here. Saw him run at the V-10 Nationals in Shreveport, and the boy can drive. :usa:

No isolator. You do not need or want one. Always bolt your knob directly to the shifter, never through an isolator. Get a new short throw shift, whatever knob you like, and it feels like driving a new sports car again.

Agreed! And thanks for the props, Shelby!

Shifter can be install from below with the car on jackstands. Not difficult, just lower the rear of the trans a bit to get clearance. Saves you from having to drill out the rivets.

That's how I did it, and it was fairly easy. Actually I put it on a lift, which was probably easier still. Drilling the rivets didn't seem like much fun!
