Re: Side sill

I have the same question - my black one gets here before the weekend.

Does anybody know where to buy.

Does it come pre-cut to size

Can I install myself or should it be done by a pro/experienced installer (if by an installer, does anybody know where to do this in South Florida).

The underside gets blasted almost immediately. The good news is the chips are not visible unless you have your head on the ground and are looking up. I failed to protect mine, and it's too late now.

Smog Dog is right, unfortunately. Your sills will be damaged almost immediately. In my case, the sandblast effect is not as inconspicuous; the chips are creeping up into the part of the sill that is visible while standing and looking at the car.

Posts about this problem have been here before and DC is annoyingly silent on this issue.

Re: Side sill

My car is the same as "Smog Dogs". I find the sandblasting to be less than on my GTS. I have about 10000KM (6000 miles) on the car. I don't notice anything unless I get right down on the ground and look under the car. I have yet to see any product, including 3M, that looks good...it's almost the same concept as leaving the plastic on your sofa and lamp shades :D

Re: Side sill

I did mine the day I got it. No chips!! I also did right behind the back wheels also.

There is a company online that sells bulk material. I believe I used the 12 inch wide stuff . I ran it from the underneath edge wrapped toward the top of the sill. I cut it in two pieces so there is a front and back that connect with a seam. It was easier to applie with two piece.

Homesite,
How about a URL for the bulk 3M film seller? Thanks!

These guys make a kit for the Viper. Bad news is that it does not cover the sidesills. They did tell me that they can make one by customizing a cut...but you can probably get that done by someone local.

Re: Side sill

Anybody consider urethane paint? I use it on my race cars in areas suceptable to damage, works great. My SRT-10 sills are not too bad, only have a couple thousand easy miles. Will repaint the lower areas with urethane when needed, maybe this winter.

I am having Clearbra applied to my rocker panels (and sills) this morning by my local Dodge dealer's body shop. I have just 300 miles on my new car, have never had it over 70 mph on "clean" roads, and yet, the "sand-blasting" has already started. They have taken the panels off the car to do the work. I'll report back with the results.
I should mention that Clearbra did sell the material to my Dodge dealer.

Re: Side sill

3M makes a product called rocker-schutz, available in some paint stores. I think I'm gonna have this applied then re-paint the red. I put mud flaps on the car (don't laugh) and this has prevented any further sand blasting. The pictures are posted under the thread 'easy change and it sounds great'

Re: Side sill \"sand blasting\" on SRT10\'s ?????

Over the weekend, I had the Clearbra applied by my local Dodge dealer body shop. They removed the rocker panels and put Clearbra on my rocker panels and sills. I was very pleasantly surprised with how invisible it was. You can see the seams if you look closely, but it certainly does not look unattractive. I might add that I only had 300 miles on the car, and the sandblasting had already done some light paint damage.

Did they cover the whole side sill or just the front ? When you say rockers....do you mean the area behind the rear tire ? Please keep us updated.

edit: Just looked at some side pics of the SRT and on the side sills...kinda the same question...did they cover the front high part that meets the hood ? What parts are actually taking the rock abuse ?
