I am getting ready to remove my cats and have been doing some searches on the forum about the process. I came upon a thread that Sean Roe had posted ahile back where he had done some experimenting with drilling larger holes in the shroud around the O2 sensor located in the headers. This allowed more exhaust to reach the sensing element in the sensor and consequently they heated up quicker and avoided a check engine light. Will this same technique work with the rear O2 sensors near the cats or do I have to buy the O2 simulators?

Modifying the rear sensors in that fashion won't help, but I'm not sure you need any help anyway with a '98 PCM. I'm not sure when the check engine trip for the cats was added to the PCM, but I know the '96 PCM didn't have it. Someone will chime in that knows. If yours does have it, you'll need the sims.

I had no check the engine lights too but the dyno showed that the car run rich and lost 40RWHP. After sims I gained back 40 + 7RWHP and +12RWTQ
